I am deeply fascinated by the modern right's insistence that "the elite" is a category that does not actually include the ultra wealthy who dominate society and dictate many of its laws, and is instead made up of socialist teachers, anti-genocide protestors, and "woke" baristas.
I apologise unreservedly for any comments which may have given the impression that I retain a moral backbone.
Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didn’t get it right and it hasn’t come off as I intended.
I fully support our Home Secretary and the government’s position on migration reform.
As I said earlier this week, it’s absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.

What changed @Miatsf ?
If it was wrong when you were trying to get elected. It's wrong when you're in power.
In the middle of an energy crisis, homegrown gas has a role to play in our energy security as we transition to net zero.
We’ll also invest North Sea revenues in renewables and other low-carbon projects.

The past 20 days have marked one of the most monolithic pushes by British media to vilify the Zionism is Racism Green Party motion.
Imbalanced coverage would be an understatement.
The papers wrote 447 articles on the Greens' Zionism vote. Israel, pro-Israel groups and the Chief Rabbi got 12,133 words. Palestinians got 3,173.
Any institution that parades as a "news outlet" can no longer be taken seriously if it covers this motion without also covering the people, Palestinians, who have endured, suffered and been oppressed the most by the ideology in action.
What the figures show:
• Israel's government alone got 3,904 words. More than every Palestinian put together.
• 2,422 of the 3,173 Palestinian words came in stories tying Lubna Speitan, the Palestinian who proposed the motion, to al-Qaeda.
• Apart from Lubna, two Palestinians were quoted across 436 articles, for 76 words between them. Nobody in Gaza, the occupied West Bank or Lebanon was quoted at all.
• Lubna told the Telegraph that 56 members of her family had been killed in Gaza. One article mentioned it: the Telegraph's own al-Qaeda story, in paragraph 44 of 51.
• Lubna has received death and rape threats since the vote. Al Jazeera reported it. None of the 447 British articles did.
• 43 articles said, in the paper's own voice, that the motion meant the destruction or abolition of Israel. The motion calls for one state with "equal rights for all".
• 36 headlines said antisemitism. Not one of 447 said genocide.
• 304 of the 436 articles we read in full never mentioned the genocide at all.
• 0 of 89 comment pieces backed the motion.
• The Daily Mail ran 38 articles on the motion, and in that time, just 2 on Israel's ongoing attacks across Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.

The head of the International Energy Agency said in 2021 that if governments are serious about climate change “there can be no new investments in oil, gas and coal, from now, from this year”.
It’s 2026 and Burnham’s government is approving a new gas field.
A terrible decision.
NEW: The Jackdaw gasfield will be given the go-ahead on Wednesday, signalling Andy Burnham’s commitment to the North Sea fossil fuel industry and threatening to trigger a row with climate campaigners and Labour MPs.

"Wes you fool! You've commissioned a real review by mistake!"
So this morning, we ask if there’s a complication with welfare review. The PM has written a very watery non-committal piece about NEETS. The Milburn review is next month.
But have they just received an inconveniently timed new intervention - the Fonagy review. We discuss this on today’s podcast
*What is Fonagy*? After then Health Secretary Wes Streeting said in March 2025, that “mental wellbeing, illness, it’s a spectrum and I think definitely there’s an overdiagnosis”, he commissioned Professor Peter Fonagy to look at this and feed into the Milburn report. It was published earlier this month
*What does it say*? Fonagy appears to challenge the main point of Milburn. His report says: “Low participation should not be interpreted as lack of ability, motivation or aspiration. Work is not invariably beneficial, and an early return is not always appropriate.”
He also says “secure, well-designed and supported work can promote recovery, while insecure or unsupported work can worsen mental health”
The review rejects the "snowflake generation" narrative, finding a genuine, steep increase in mental ill-health (such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders) over the last three decades, particularly among young people aged 16 to 24.
And on ADHD and Autism, found “On the basis of evidence available to us we cannot conclude that overdiagnosis is occurring at scale”.
*Why a complication*? Milburn is likely to recommend that - apart from those with severe and enduring disabilities - all financial support for young people should have work and training support and requirements attached. Arguing that work per-se is automatically good, as Milburn seems to, is now challenged by Fonagy. And where drawing the line on “severe and enduring disabilities” is more complicated.

“The status quo right now is a one state, an apartheid state, where Palestinians and Israelis don’t have equal rights”.
When I’ve travelled around the West Bank, interviewing settlers and Palestinians, this reality has been clear. Yet I don’t think I’ve ever heard a senior Western politician say it. Thank you @zackpolanski. Hearing a truth long denied is deeply moving.
"Do you think Israel has a right to exist?"
@ZackPolanski is spot on. No state has a right to exist. Did Rhodesia? Does the UK?
And this was🎯"The status quo right now is a one state apartheid state where Palestinians do not have the same freedom as Israelis, & that's racist"
Am I supposed to think this is bad? Direct assistance to disabled people is better than cops, it's good if we spend more on it.

I don’t think it has but it has wrecked the Labour Party’s charm offensive to the left, making it very clear indeed that the pointing and screeching about treason weirdos are still in the driving seat.

This is literally exactly what Musk thinks about America.
Replying to @forbiddenmerch
Hitler, based on his writings and wartime remarks, would call modern America a decaying mongrel state. He once admired its industrial power, size, and 1920s racial immigration limits as Nordic strength. Today he would see open borders, democracy, Jewish influence in finance and media, and racial mixing as fatal corruption that has destroyed the founding stock and left a giant with feet of clay.
I'm not saying "out-of-control AI" isn't a threat, but it's dwarfed by the threat presented by AI that's operating as intended.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
MPs have parliamentary privilege while speaking in the House of Commons, it is not legally possible for them to be held in contempt of court for things they say during sessions.
