During this tough time for Bay Area Jews, Kashering Desta Ethiopian Cafe has been a blessing, and small win for building bridges between communities. Thanks @WallAlix for capturing the story. jweekly.com/2024/02/16/desta…
After a disgusting act of antisemitism destroying Chabad of Oakland's Menorah at Lake Merritt, hundreds of Jews gathered together to light the 7th candle, and to proclaim united that we will NOT BE AFRAID to stand as proud Jews. Am Yisrael Chai! abc7news.com/amp/antisemitis… @SFJCRC

At tonight’s #Oakland City Council meeting, a resolution passed in support of an immediate ceasefire that failed to mention the atrocities of #Hamas, including rape, torture, and mass murder of Jews, Bedouins, Thai and Filipino farm workers, and many more.
As disturbing was the completely inability of council members to reign in several hours antisemitic rhetoric, including chants of “white Hitler,” saying “antisemitism isn’t real,” and denying that the Oct. 7 attacks occurred.
CEO @TyeGregory reflected “Tonight’s meeting was a complete disgrace and will bring nothing constructive to actual Palestinians and Israelis on the ground. What it instead has achieved is the fanning of flames of antisemitism in Oakland.”
JCRC would like to thank Councilmembers @DanKalb and @reidforoakland for having the courage to condemn terrorism.
Proud to have stood together with other Oakland Jews and friends for Israel. #BringThemHomeNow
HAPPENING NOW: Jewish community members are holding a vigil in front of #Oakland City Hall to honor the victims of Hamas before councilmembers vote on an inflammatory anti-Israel resolution.
If there's one thing you listen to about the war in Israel against Hamas, let it be this podcast, interviewing survivors, and families of those massacred and kidnapped in Southern Israel. Bari is among the first to share them in English. This is what we are fighting for.
Today on Honestly, nine stories from the more than three dozen Israelis @bariweiss and @thefp reporters have spoken to since the attacks on October 7. These stories are difficult to hear. But we hope that you will take the time to listen. thefp.pub/45ASUqy
I had some time this summer to write about a band that brings me a lot of joy and that can teach us a thing or two not only about music, but also how to harness online communities and build culture. traditiononline.org/the-best…
Such an honor to return to this slice of heaven - thanks for having us back in our summer home!

The latest single from Zusha is “Niggun Hodaah” by Rabbi Gershon Albert of @BJCOakland. After the song dropped, he told our @DavidAMWilensky how his infectious, joyful tune caught the ear of the hipster Hasidic musical duo.

Exciting news for the East Bay Jewish community!
In addition to more than doubling the total area covered by the Oakland eruv, it now includes streets and neighborhoods where housing is more affordable, which could make living an Orthodox lifestyle in Oakland more accessible.

Coming out of Twitter hibernation to thank @DBashIdeas for an outstanding Shabbos with Beth Jacob of Oakland. Maybe, just maybe, you’ve convinced me to return to this platform. Until then, I’m looking forward to continuing our friendship through more than 140 characters.
With trepidation for the days to come, so excited to daven and sing again with Noah Bar-Shain. If you're looking for some inspiration, here are the songs we were able to record and share last year:

I don’t think any material object has made me more excited in the past year, period. Can’t wait to share this Torah from my amazing Rebbe Rav Baruch Simon!
Thank you Leah Brick - aka Rav @BrickShua’s proud mom! P.S. it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on Twitter.

Thank you @WallAlix for this great story about the Oakland Eruv, and for highlighting what it means to live as a Modern Orthodox Jew engaged in the broader world around us.
May our community and the broader East Bay Jewish community continue to grow from strength to strength!
What's an eruv?
An Oakland Orthodox Jewish synagogue sought for years to create one for its community. It finally happened. Story by @WallAlix.
