I feel like we need more transit dependent planners, not just those who drive or who are choice-transit-riders who also bike/drive/taxi. Especially need people who've navigated the city at odd hours (eg shift work) or with disabilities or as caregivers.

I haven't done the Transit on Nicollet Mall survey yet, but it's another way to weigh in. I will write a thread when I dive in, in case my answers can help you reflect on what's important to you/our community about this critical transit spine.

I love how the term Vibrant Storefronts is completely devoid of any humanity

I've seen two presentations on this so far, first at the Climate and Infrastructure meeting in late July, and again with the Pedestrian Advisory Committee earlier this month. I'm VERY VERY concerned about what's being proposed and how it would impact transit riders.

Restrooms need to be open all day/night long, and all year round!
Same with water fountains! (Didn't seem them in the plan, but assume (?) they'll be included.)
Why no food retail space like Owamni, Bde Maka Ska, Minnehaha? Add some in (now or future)!

The park (east side of river) has too much impervious parking, given strength of bike trail connections. Why not bike storage for staff?
Where is the bike parking? What about daily storage lockers?
Why is there only canoe/kayak rental, not (cargo) bike (trailer) rental?

The rail bridge is a great bridge (ignoring accessibility/physical safety concerns). It's very visually interesting, multi-level, convenient, good sight lines, nice place to stop for a snack/talking/view. New bridge needs to be as good/better in all these ways!

Keep the bridges as low to the water as possible. Make the piers another level of interaction, whether by extending docks to some of them or as landing places for kayaking/canoeing. Make some of them attractive to wildlife for extra interest/connection for people on bridge.

A thoughtful thread on the proposed Mississippi bridge connecting N and NE Minneapolis. I have missed the vision @happifydesign brings to proposals like this.
Have you all done the survey about the new walk/bike/gather bridge across the Mississippi in Minneapolis?

Proposed bridge is very curved and needlessly long in both options. What will sight lines be like? If sightlines are not clear to the other side, the rail bridge will by the more attractive option for some people during low volume times for sense of safety reasons.

Proposed bridge is too narrow! It's 16' for most of it (10' bike, 6' walk). The Stone Arch is 28' wide and that's incredibly insufficient.
The new bridge needs more places to rest/gather.
It needs at least some shelter (currently only in one version).

BENCHES! We need places to rest (it's basic accessibility) on long stretches like this. Plus a place to sit/reflect/connect.
Look to how Stone Arch was used when it was open for what people need/how they want to use bridges: busking, picnics, special events, making art, etc.

I had a LOT of comments (as always). Sharing in case it helps you think of what's important to you/our community!
Firstly, bridges are special, make this a destination! Bridges are rare crossings of geographic barriers with unique views and they symbolize connection/transition.

Wow! The headlines are all about turbulence stopping the in-flight noodle service, but buried in the detail is this completely unprecedented statement. I think it's the first acknowledgement from any airline ever that climate change is increasing turbulence. Well done Korean Air!

On #YomHaShoah, the Israeli military is forcibly displacing & bombing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Rafah β where 1.4 million+ Gazans are already sheltering from months of bombardment.
Palestinians in Gaza have nowhere to go.
