Homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant people. New research shows women’s risk of being murdered in states w/ abortion bans increased after Dobbs. This builds on a growing, devastating catalog of data showing bans’ impact on domestic violence. Link below:

HUGE WIN FOR PATIENCE! 🥳
After being incarcerated for 2 years for her pregnancy loss, Patience is now being paid $1.6 million dollars. It doesn't make up for the trauma she endured, but we are glad Patience can move on with her life as best she can 💚

A victory for incarcerated trans people.
The Supreme Court has rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to restrict access to gender-affirming health care in federal prisons, keeping critical protections in place as the legal fight continues.

The stuff about Hunter Schafer should sit in a similar space as Phoebe Bridgers talking about her abortion or AOC freezing her eggs. There's a lot of health care that you need not just to survive but to do so with dignity and autonomy and that, too, is a human right.

More than one third of U.S. counties are now in maternity care deserts and since Trump’s funding cuts, 52 maternity wards have closed (with many more at risk of closing). But hey, at least we have thousands of data centers to use up our water and hum all night.

🚨 BREAKING: Half a million Palestinians in Gaza will lose monthly food assistance as funding shortages force major World Food Programme cuts ahead of winter, ABC News Australia reports.
➤ WFP is reducing its monthly reach from 1.6 million people to 1.1 million. Families receiving two food parcels will now get one, and flour bags will shrink.
➤ Daily hot meals have fallen from 250,000 to 150,000. Some families in hard-to-reach areas will receive meals every other day instead of daily. Cash assistance for 75,000 families is being cut by 40%.
➤ WFP’s Carl Skau said traditional donors, including the U.S. and Europe, have reduced funding. “It’s not because the needs are down … it’s only due to the lack of funding,” Skau told ABC.
➤ Around 1.4 million people face crisis-level hunger or worse, including 200,000 in emergency conditions. WFP says it urgently needs $450 million for six months of operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Some of the most harmful laws for DV victims are anti-immigrant laws perversely framed around "protecting" women. In reality these laws put immigrant victims at exponentially greater risk, give their abusers/exploitative employers exponentially more power to threaten them, etc
Inside an ICE facility, women talked about the 911 calls that landed them there — from men who had beat them, choked them, threatened deportation.
“I had suffered from domestic violence,” one woman said. “But the one who ended up in trouble was me.”

Maryam Ahmed Ghanem is being treated at Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital for second-degree burns to her face and body, and smoke inhalation, a year into the so-called ceasefire, after an Israeli strike murdered her 33-year old mother in the middle of the night Wednesday.
Three-year-old Maryam Ahmed Ghanem watched her mother burn to death while flames surrounded her. At around 4am on Wednesday, an Israeli occupation airstrike hit their apartment in Gaza City and set it on fire while the family slept. Journalist Ali Al-Jaafarawi heard her screaming, fought his way through the smoke on his third attempt and carried her out. Her mother, Reem, was 33 and did not survive. Maryam’s father was killed at the start of the genocide, and her grandmother is now all she has left. She is lying in Al-Shifa Hospital with second-degree burns and smoke in her lungs. This happened a year into a ceasefire. Remember her name.
