As western media pore over the maths of Israel's election results, it is easy to overlook the big picture. Netanyahu, wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity in starving Gaza’s population, won the largest share of the vote last week.
He is still Israel’s most popular politician.
Any government that might emerge from the current post-election talks – even were it to be supported by the Palestinian parties – would be dominated by the extreme right.
An opposition-led coalition will be no less hawkish and vehemently hostile to the Palestinians, whether those under occupation or those with Israeli “citizenship”, than a Netanyahu-led one.
Although this was the first election since Israel launched its genocidal rampage through Gaza in late 2023, debate about the genocide was absent from the campaign trail – as was nay discussion of the intensifying pogroms by settler terrorists on Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
These are non-issues. There is an absolute Jewish consensus that Israel should be a Middle East Sparta, terrorising and slaughtering its neighbours.
And if Netanyahu senses he may lose his grip on power, he has every incentive to step up the bombing of Gaza and restart his war of aggression on Iran. This master politician understands how well that will play with most Israeli Jews.
Meanwhile, a poll earlier this year showed that Israel’s young are more fanatically rightwing and fervently religious than ever. Only 5 percent identify as leftwing.
Channel 12 invited into its studios a representative sample of these 18 to 21-year-olds. Out of 12, all but one answered that they were against Israel's Palestinian parties being allowed to sit in the parliament – let alone join a government.
These new voters are gradually shifting Israeli politics ever further to the far right.
This election was stark confirmation that Britain’s Green party was decisively right to adopt a new policy last month at its conference that declared Zionism – the political ideology underpinning Israel as a Jewish state – to be racist.
It was the warped logic of Zionism, not some need for security, that propelled Israel into levelling Gaza and killing and maiming many tens of thousands of Palestinian children.
And it is the same racist logic that makes it impossible for Israel’s Jewish parties to reach a compromise with the Palestinian minority to oust Netanyahu.
The overwhelming majority in Israel is bent on the eradication of the Palestinians. Western politicians and media stubbornly cling to the idea that Israel’s racist, genocidal behaviour is peculiar to Netanyahu, and can be fixed by an election.
The next weeks will prove, once again, how wrong they are.

Ahead of what will clearly be a coordinated assault on Zack Polanski - some basic facts.
1 - Yes, Polanski's own net approval ratings have dipped sharply in recent months. This is primarily the result of more people becoming aware of him and forming an opinion. His actual approval ratings have been remarkably steady and, at 19%, he remains considerably more popular than his party.
2 - By comparison Adrian Ramsay's approval rating when he was co-leader in June 2025 was 5%. 81% had either never heard of them or had never bothered to form an opinion. His fellow co-leader Carla Denyer was only marginally better on 9%.
3 - Reportedly 18,000 members have left in recent months. But this is in the context of an unprecedented surge in membership which took the party from 70k to close to quarter of a million members after Polanski became leader.
4 - The party now has more than 1300 local councillors, compared to less than 900 when Polanski became leader.
5 - Yes, the Greens have dipped in the polls recently. But even now they are at the same level they were when he became leader. And they are primarily victims of their own success having obliged the Labour Party to ditch Starmer - a level of influence the Greens could previously only dream of.
6 - The Zionism is racism motion is held up as having done huge damage to the party. An Opinium poll showed 56% of Green Party members supported it - and just 13% opposed it. A clear majority among all voters under 34 who expressed an opinion supported it.
By any logical criteria, if your aim is for the Greens to become Britain's first genuinely radical, mass political party, capable of holding the balance of power in parliament, it makes no sense whatsoever to get rid of Polanski.
It makes sense only if that is precisely what you don't want to happen.

"His wife was raped in front of him, so that they could get information from him."
Israeli academic Mordechai Kedar was confronted over a quote suggesting that threatening to rape Palestinian resistance fighters’ mothers or sisters could deter attacks, during a discussion on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Kedar denied making the statement, but the exact wording from a 2014 Haaretz interview was read out, leaving him struggling to explain the remarks.
When pressed, Kedar attempted to shift the context of the quote, rather than directly address its wording.
British commentator Benjamin Moser then placed the remarks in the wider context of Israeli society, pointing to demonstrations defending Israeli soldiers accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee and public rallies held in their support.
Moser questioned how people could take to the streets to defend soldiers accused of such horrific abuse, highlighting the disturbing public response to sexual violence against Palestinians.

🚨🇬🇧 They say, “Tommy was protecting his family.” “They did it to him first.”
Two excuses. A jury heard and rejected both.
The Mail wrote about a public figure on holiday. Tommy hired private investigators to photograph journalists’ homes, then told a million followers “I will find you.”
That isn’t the same thing. And it isn’t protection.
Here’s what the jury actually heard.
What happened
In August 2024, while England was rioting, Robinson was on holiday in Cyprus, posting about the riots to his followers. The Mail found him there and ran a story: “Stoking riots from his sunbed.”
Over the next three days he went after the two reporters, Jacob Dirnhuber and Andrew Young.
🔺5 August: a direct message to Dirnhuber. “I’ll be knocking at your door.”
🔺5 August: a phone call to Young. Robinson told him he’d be coming to his home and that he’d “have to move house.”
🔺6 August: a post naming Dirnhuber, saying he and the other Mail journalists had “today been located.”
🔺7 August: a video to around a million followers. He said he had details of where they and their families lived. He told them to abide by “men’s rules.” Then: “The men, on the other hand, I will find you.”
He also hired private investigators to photograph their homes. He admitted it in court.
The result: Dirnhuber moved house. Young was given a close protection officer.
The law
The charge was harassment causing fear of violence. The prosecution had to prove a course of conduct that made each man fear violence on at least two occasions, and that Robinson knew or ought to have known it would.
That last part is an objective test. What Robinson says he meant doesn’t decide it. What decides it is what a reasonable person would expect a million followers to do with “I will find you.”
His defence
He said he was protecting his family. That is a real defence in law, if the conduct is reasonable for protecting someone. Police had given him four threat-to-life warnings. The jury heard all of it.
Why it failed
He admitted the aim was pressure. Telling a million people where journalists live doesn’t protect your children. It endangers theirs.
🔺He didn’t dispute that they were frightened. Asked in evidence, he said no.
🔺He never complained to the press regulator. He never asked the Mail to change or remove the story. The legal route was there. He skipped it.
🔺His own words. “Men’s rules” is not the language of protection.
One is journalism, however much you dislike it. The other is a threat.
The jury
He chose this. At the magistrates’ court he was offered a trial there. He opted for a jury instead, saying he wanted 12 members of the British public to hear the evidence.
They did. They convicted on both counts.
Sentencing is on 16 December.

Yesterday, I was barred from entering the West Bank by Israeli officials, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
What's happening here in Palestine is unjust. We've just witnessed what Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many others have called a genocide unfold in Gaza.
We came here to show the world, and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Israeli government didn't allow that.

Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
“We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1

Today Israeli authorities barred me and other European elected representatives from entering the West Bank to meet Palestinian students and civil society leaders, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation.
We knew that by crossing into the occupied Palestinian territories, we risked being detained, interrogated and turned away by Israeli authorities. And that, alas, is exactly what happened.
For more than eight hours, we were held, interrogated and made to feel as though we had done something wrong simply by attempting to enter.
The simple truth is we had done nothing wrong. We went to show our support for the Palestinian people and highlight the terrible injustice and violence being perpetrated against them. We want to ensure that people back home do not look away from the reality of what is happening.
Ultimately, we went to show solidarity. But we left with an even greater determination to speak out. We will not be silenced, and we will not look away. None of us should.
