Look, you can't appreciate Monica De La Cruz without knowing what came before her. South Texas's history of political representation is pathetic, and I say this as a native of Miami, which makes Tammany Hall look like a monastery. At one point, most of Hidalgo County's officials were indicted. Her immediate predecessor has been in Congress for 10 years, six of them in that seat, and he's had one standalone bill signed into law. It named a post office. The guy's about as useful as Viagra at a funeral. He just flies to Washington to collect airline miles.
Now consider Monica's record: In her first term, she got a fentanyl crackdown signed by a president of the opposing party. She's brought home funding for her local airport, schools, police, and infrastructure. Her bill helping disabled veterans secure housing is now the law of the land, as are her provisions expanding the housing supply. She got the Mexican government to start delivering the water it owed Texas and secured $280 million in economic relief, which saved their local economy. She was also the only Republican in her state to vote to extend healthcare credits. A tough vote? Sure. But the right one for her community.
A legislator's job is not to emote. It's to pass legislation and advance their community's interests before the federal government. How much do voters care about legislative effectiveness? In an age of nationalized elections, when every race is a referendum on whoever occupies the White House, not nearly enough. Oh well. It doesn't change the fact that she's an incredible congresswoman. Her constituents are lucky to have her.

You guys ran one of the ugliest campaigns of the cycle to distract from Monica’s record, and she still lost by 25 in a Trump +18 seat. That’s a 43-point swing - the largest in the country for a Republican seat.
Now you're blaming the WH and voters supposedly not caring about “legislative effectiveness”?? That’s an insult to South Texans. They watched her side with her party over them time and again, make their lives harder, and never find time for a single in-person town hall yet had the time to parade around the RNC and roll out the red carpet for Trump. For Monica, it was always her party first, TX15 last, and she resorted to mudslinging to hide that fact.
A stark contrast to Bobby's 100% South Texas campaign, which centered around his message from Day 1: I'm not team red, I'm not team blue, I'm team YOU. Bobby did over 500 events across all 11 counties and over 200+ interviews. He constantly spoke about the issues and he gave his people hope in a better future. South TX rejected a follower in favor of fighter, and is sending one of their own to Congress.

Chuck Schumer deserves plenty of praise and should be regarded as an important American political figure.
Passing the torch should be celebrated in every way. The best politicians and athletes and musicians know when their time has come.

Are there flashier or younger people who could stand for Senate leader? Certainly. But there's a reason Harry Reid—not the most inspiring or charismatic guy—is still heralded. His job wasn't a vision. The job was to wield power effectively and protect the caucus.
I have my notes about Leader Schumer, but under the circumstances I think he deserves more credit than a lot of folx #OnHere are willing to give.

Fun fact: not only is @PulidoForTexas the biggest overperformer of the cycle, he’s also going for his THIRD Latin Grammy next week 🤠

Josh Shapiro had a greater margin of victory in Pennsylvania than Kamala Harris had in her home state of California in 2024. As Tim said, "That is insane."
Roy Cooper, Jon Ossoff, and Josh Shapiro won by nearly 20 points in three critical swing states.
@Rob_Flaherty tells @Timodc what their landslide victories reveal:
"It really is a testament to candidate quality, being able to sort of beat the environment like that."

The flip side of this is that many of the candidates who outperformed the most this year were ones who knew how to effectively wield *organic* attention.
2026 is the election where organic attention overtook paid media as an electoral force.
There's a lot to focus on right now, but "The richest man to ever live just spent $200 million to support the Republican Senate candidate in Texas, and his man lost by double-digits in a statewide wipeout" is a completely insane sentence.
Put another way, the most expensive US Senate race before 2020 was $200 million. *One guy* spent that amount in Texas, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It might have hurt in a kind of Streisand effect way, in that the spending level was seen as obscene to people sympathetic to the argument that billionaires shouldn't "buy" elections.
The implications here seem pretty interesting! Especially re the limits of billionaire political power and/or the diminishing returns of money in politics.

Just noticed that Sarah McBride won by a landslide, doing 15% better then how Kamala did in 2024 and flipping traditionally red Sussex County.
Nobody does it like her

A smaller set of races and with a lot of overlap with the Blue Dogs but @ElectTheBench ran ahead of other Democratic challengers by 3-5 points
Resharing: working on a more formal measure of overperformance, but preliminarily @BlueDogBark backed challengers ran 4.6 pts better than other Dem challengers after controls. Bobby Pulido’s +43 in TX-15 was truly extraordinary.
Out of all the 2028 candidates, Pete deserves the most credit for his ’26 posture. He went places others assumed were a waste of time and had a really good team around him that was easy to work with. Showing up in places like MS clearly matters in blue tsunami years like this.
