Brazil has just delivered something the world desperately needed: proof that the authoritarian wave is neither unstoppable nor irreversible. Bolsonarism was defeated, despite the political pressure coming from Trump's America. And the Amazon, once again, has a fighting chance.

On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa I congratulate my dear brother and friend, President @LulaOficial and the people of Brazil. This victory will echo beyond the shores of Brazil. It is a victory for the global south and progressive forces throughout the world. We affirm our commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries and working closely together in all multilateral fora to forge a just and better world order underpinned by solidarity and adherence to international law.

2/2 Americans don't NEED to know anything about the rest of the world except that it is full of people who apparently want to destroy America. I explore this a bit in my book "Backlash" (World Scientific) on the rise of Trump.
1/2 I would add that the very nature of America makes it so. Americans grow up being told the US is the greatest civilisation that has ever existed. The US has been the sole global hyperpower since the fall of the USSR. It is a nuclear armed continent sized country. Most..

I have hesitated about making this comparison between the American and English/French populace because of the toxic reaction from MAGATS it might trigger. But, I can't avoid describing a bitter truth that will last long after Trump leaves the stage. 1/3rd of Americans

Boarding on AI 882 AMD-DEL is delayed by 20 minutes because Supreme Court Judge Vipul Pancholi & wife had to be VIP boarded first. They walk in with a posse of 6 guards + 3 AI staffers. Is this the VIP culture that India’s judiciary advocates? @MLJ_GoI ? #VIPculture 🚨#lalbatti

One problem : Most of India's best talents - like the young woman from Saharanpur I met this week who is a qualified physiotherapist - want to leave India, @PiyushGoyal
#WATCH | Berlin, Germany | Union Minister Piyush Goyal says, "We are going to be a developed country, a 30 trillion dollar economy by 2047, and we will achieve it... On AI, we have a lot of work happening. In India, we have even startups working on frontier technologies, LLMs... Probably the largest pool of talent in the IT sector is India. So we used and leveraged what they have done and became the supplier to the world of talent to use those things... Similarly, we are not worried in the the new-age world. We are going to absorb AI, quantum computing, and all of these new technologies. Are young boys and girls going to be the only guys available to do cybersecurity and data scrubs..."

“The U.S. has benefited from the skills that Indians bring without having had to invest much in their education. Many have earned advanced degrees in America, but the bulk of their training happened in India. A more honest way to see it is that India, along with other poorer countries, has been subsidizing the United States.” theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…

In much of the world, trust in America is collapsing. President Trump believes he is making America's allies support themselves and pay their own bills. But he may instead end up making them build their own nuclear bombs. My latest column: washingtonpost.com/opinions/…
