Julian Castro is practicing his Spanish, and tells @kasie why he didn't grow up speaking the language: "In my grandparents' time... Spanish was looked down upon. You were not allowed to speak it. People, I think, internalized this oppression..."

Can someone explain why a cartoonist was fired for drawing a cartoon in ink, but America has not fired a cartoon of a man for creating the situation in real life? #CloseTheCamps chrissuprunforcongress.com

About a year ago, I wrote "The Dystopia Is Here" for @nytopinion on my 2017 fictional depiction of Trump's proposed border wall and how my prediction of systemized family separation became a reality. nytimes.com/2018/06/19/opini… #ImmigrationReform #SundayReads @PamelaPaulNYT

Sometimes, you learn the biggest lessons from the smallest moments. Our segment on the road in Buffalo, NY tonight.
“When you see somebody doing the wrong thing, you have to do the right thing.” When an 11-y.o. witnessed a hit-and-run, it would have been easiest to walk away. But that’s not Ziarra Griffin, who one man will "remember for the rest of my life." @SteveHartmanCBS is On The Road

Even though this was taped in 1962, it still resonates today. Same date Nov. 6. Same request. #Vote. It’s what you can do for your country.
In 1962, JFK urged Americans to vote in the midterm elections, which also fell on November 6. We encourage you to vote, too!

Separating children from their parents is against the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (signed in 1995 by the U.S.). It says that “a child shall not be separated from his or her parents against their will.” Clearly the @realDonaldTrump govt. is violating human rights.

If you think authoritarianism cannot happen here in America, I lived through a time when it already did: to 120,000 Japanese Americans, most of us citizens. It starts by dehumanizing a group, then spreads through fear, ignorance and hate. Recognize the patterns. Remember history.

I’m a cosponsor. And yes, we can pass this bill—but we need you to raise your voice, loud and clear. Pick up the phone, RT this tweet, or find an event near you today: familiesbelong.org xitter.cf/senfeinstein/status/10…
UPDATE: 40 senators now support our bill to bar children from being taken from their parents at the border. We’re continuing to ask Republican senators to join our bill. If you’re represented by a Republican senator, please ask them to cosponsor S.3036. #FamiliesBelongTogether
