Separatists: “Why would you vote to remain? Can’t you see the Canadian federal government is incompetent and untrustworthy?”
Also: “We don’t have a plan for government but trust us. And don’t judge prospects based on crazy things proponents of independence say”

How rare is an interim leader winning an election?
I could only find one precedent.
Not just in Canada - in all Westminster countries at the national or provincial/state levels.
Searched UK, Australia, NZ.
Just found one.

The only party to blame for the NDP's loss is the NDP. Even if all Green voters, plus everyone who voted CWP, CentreBC, CHP, Communist, Freedom, Libertarian, OneBC, Independent and Unaffiliated all voted NDP instead, the Conservatives still would have won a majority.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners.
Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads.
Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was.
Got a root shell.
then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems.
This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

TRUMP REPORTEDLY PLANS TO EASE 50% TARIFFS ON CANADA
The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to remove 50% tariffs on certain Canadian agricultural and forestry products, potentially as early as Friday.
The move is intended to provide relief to trade-dependent states, including Maine, ahead of the U.S. midterms.
However, tariffs on other Canadian goods could rise to offset the reductions.

Then my cybersecurity team has to review their own message and email me to tell me it’s not phishing.
I also flag that second email as phishing.

It's fascinating how Calvin & Hobbes is locked into its own lifespan. Watterson famously didn't want his comic strip marketed and merchandised like Garfield, so he ended it on his terms.
The side effect of that is it's really only known by those who were around for its original run and a brief period after when the collections were recommended by everyone.
There's an entire generation who didn't grow up with it, and that's a shame. One of the greatest newspaper comic strips of all time.

There used to be a show called Crossfire whose premise was to take two complete partisans, neither of whom cared at all about trying to get to the truth, and have them argue about politics. This show was terrible and Jon Stewart got it cancelled: youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5Yp…
At this time, the premise of the Daily Show was something like, "First, we will try to find things in politics that are genuinely funny. Second, we will expose obvious hypocrisy among public figures" -- and this was actually useful! -- it highlighted the foolishness of partisanship, and how dumb it was to platform people whose job was to repeat the party line in a totally unprincipled way.
I think a wrong turn was taken when the Daily Show and its descendants moved to a model which said, "We will try to make our audience more informed about politics."
While this is a very tempting idea, comedy writers themselves lack the epistemic community to arrive at the truth -- it's a very hard problem, and comedy writers might be better at this than partisans, but they're not good at this, and not clearly better than much maligned traditional news media. Even worse, combining information with jokes often means snark. Now you get John Oliver acting like his specific narrative about a complex issue is so obviously correct that the opposing view is laughable.
If there is a lesson, I think it is that comparative advantage is underrated. Comedy shows should try to be funny, news shows should try to inform, and everyone should try to make their audience bewildered by the complexity of the world and their inability to grasp most of what is going on, instead of deluding their audience into thinking it is simple.

It's all part of the Smith-Carney plan to hand the premiership of Alberta (current occupant: Smith) to Naheed Nenshi. What could possibly be the purpose of such a plan? That you have to ask such a question only betrays your own adherence to the conspiracy.

No, they shouldn't do this. They don't know your configuration. Are you using Docker? Installing it straight? Some weird non-standard archaic configuration? This isn't something that can be automated. And what if they break something, whose fault should that be?

For those of you who are still being mislead by the fake news of the execution in Saudi.
Here is what really happened. Now judge it yourself.
Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh.
In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video.
Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online.
The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals.
The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage.
Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023.
Nazrul had originally arrived in Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh between November 10 and 13, 2022. Following his arrest in May 2023, he remained incarcerated throughout a lengthy three-and-a-half to four-year judicial process leading up to October 2026.
Throughout this period, official protocol dictated that the Saudi government notify the employer (sponsor) rather than foreign government authorities.
Various rumors circulated online falsely claiming that the individuals were pilgrims performing Umrah or that the charges stemmed merely from public displays of affection.
While the defendants were unmarried, the severity of the legal outcome was not solely based on the act of zina (adultery). Because the offense took place within the sacred precincts of Masjidul Haram, the court determined that they had severely violated the sanctity and honor of Islam's holiest mosque.
Consequently, senior judges of the Supreme Court handed down the death penalty as an exemplary punishment aligned with Quranic principles and the Sunnah.

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…
