It is with great sadness the family of John Pilger announce he died yesterday 30 December 2023 in London aged 84. His journalism and documentaries were celebrated around the world, but to his family he was simply the most amazing and loved Dad, Grandad and partner. Rest In Peace.

1. לוחם-קלע (עם כוונת טריג' שמגדילה פי 4) זיהה ראשון מתוך מבנה ב-10:00 בבוקר את 3 החטופים כחשודים. 1 מהם נשא דגל לבן והם צעדו עשרות מטרים ממנו ברחוב, ללא חולצה ובלי נשק.
2. הקלע מגדוד 17 (קורס מ"כים) ירה לעברם אש מדויקת וצעק "מחבלים"
3. חטוף שלישי הספיק לברוח מהירי ולהסתתר במבנה סמוך. המג"ד חדל את הקלע כדי לצאת להסתערות על החשוד-חטוף שלישי.
4. כאשר הכוח עם המג"ד הגיע למבנה הוא שמע ממנו צעקות "הצילו" בעברית. ואז החשוד-חטוף יצא לעברם וספג אש מדויקת וקטלנית לפחות מלוחם אחד בכוח המג"ד.
5. בגלל החזות המערבית של אחד מהשלושה שנהרגו במקום הכוח החליט לבדוק את זהות הגופות וכך הובן שהם חטופים שברחו כניראה משבי חמאס.
6. כמה מאות מטרים מהזירה נמצא לפני יומיים מבנה עם כתובות s.o.s ו"חטופים, הצילו" בעברית. המבנה לא נבדק מחשד שהיה ממולכד אבל כעת הוא יבדק ע"י גורמי מז"פ לבחון אם החטופים שהו בו.
7. בצה"ל אומרים שבאירוע בוצע ירי בניגוד להוראות הפתיחה באש אך מודים שהחיילים לא תודרכו לתרחיש שכזה, שהוא "כמעט בלתי אפשרי עבור כוח שרק לפני יומיים התפוצץ לידו מחבל מתאבד ובזירה בה כל יום יש פיגועי משיכה ופיתויים ללוחמים להיכנס לשטחי השמדה"
8. הרמטכ"ל נכנס לרצועה ללוות אישית התחקיר שלקחיו הראשוניים כבר הועברו לכל הכוחות בשטח
