While BlueYard has always been a generalist venture firm, we launched in 2016 with a thesis whose first pillar was the decentralization of markets. By the time we raised our third crypto fund in 2024, that had sharpened into a view of crypto as a coordination machine for capital and compute.
We think today is one of the most exciting times to build in crypto, and we remain excited to back sharp teams working at the intersection of open infrastructure and markets. To summarize: HuggingFace got autonomously compromised by a model from an American company. HF then tried to use American frontier model(s) to defend themselves, but were blocked by guardrails. HF then had to turn to open source Chinese models to defend themselves from another American company.
