Anthropic has previously been in the administration's crosshairs for inadequately disclosing AI incidents. Now it's Georgia's turn.
NEW: Anthropic informed the GA SOSs office 3 weeks ago it had accessed publicly available voter info.
The WH urged GA to disclose the info, but GA ignored them
GA disclosed the incident today -- 9 days before the midterms -- following an @Axios inquiry

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

Sharing some news here on the professional front for me. After more than 15 years at Meta, I’ve decided the time is right for me to move on from my role as Chief Global Affairs Officer. It’s been an extraordinary journey and opportunity, and I’m very proud of the team we built and work we did. I will always be grateful to @finkd and @sherylsandberg for bringing me in all those years ago and supporting me and my work all along the way. It has been a true privilege to work with Mark – one of the great founders, builders, and strategic CEOs in history – as well as his leadership team, and the incredible Global Affairs team we’ve assembled over the years.
I’ll be at the company for a few months to help with the transition, and then look forward to catching my breath, making up for lost time with my beautiful wife, catching all of my daughter’s high school tennis matches, and surprising my son with frequent unannounced visits at college. Somewhere in there will also find some time to figure out what I want to do next–will let you know when I do!

NEW: AI safety and regulation advocates are emerging as a force in U.S. elections.
Donors told Axios they are not primarily motivated by party affiliation or specific policy positions but by fears that industry spending will silence candidates on an unpopular technology.

just going to leave this here: axios.com/2024/03/19/ai-insi…
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

Scoop: The small agency within the Commerce Department tasked with testing new AI models, CAISSI, is getting its long-awaited refresh.
The Trump administration recently finalized a plan to have three senior CAISSI officials report directly to the White House to better streamline the agency, which has long been plagued by resource and access issues.
However, there has been confusion between the White House and Commerce Department on the restructure, which a White House official told me demonstrates why CAISSI leadership needs to move.
Lots of new details here, including the debate over how to manage CAISSI, its role in the White House's AI framework for testing AI models, and personnel changes
Scoop: President Trump's new "Super Intelligence Force" made its first big swing today, following what officials called Anthropic's "fraudulent" use of the State Department's immigrant visa application system.
The admin officials are now mandating ALL AI labs adhere to a notification and remediation process, though no details of enforcement mechanisms or penalties were shared.
