So this is a big deal, and perhaps even *the day Brexit delusions die*. For the EU threatens to restrict automotive sector access unless the UK follows its trade and investment rules. And China threatens to retaliate if the UK does what the EU wants. politico.eu/article/china-th…
Why are we allowing the BBC to be dismbered before our eyes? We don’t have to, we have the tools available to put the BBC on a sound footing now. The longer we wait, the more services, and the more jobs, are lost.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump decided to punish Zelenskyy by throttling Starshield because of domestic US fuel prices, and Ukrainians were killed by Russian attacks as a result.
That didn’t bother Musk though, the only thing he cared about was his profit margin.
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.
Alignment with the EU on tariffs on Chinese vehicles is a small price to pay to gain access to the Industrial Accelerator Act and safeguard the UK auto sector. I hope the whole of UK manufacturing can be included come the end of negotiations, our other manufacturers too need access to suppliers and markets.

Here the voice of caution, and the voice of 2016, and the voice of lost ambition is captured in full flow.
In the world of 2026 however we have to make the case, as Andy is, that Brexit has done more harm than good.
Not only that, it has left us brutally exposed in a volatile world.
For the economy, for defence, for the interests of Makerfield, Newcastle and Manchester this debate must be had and won.

There are moments when what’s at stake in politics is felt with personal force.
I am conscious that this moment is one of those, for so many of us 🏴🇬🇧
‘It’s quite hard for me to separate the personal from the political’
Minister for AI @KanishkaNarayan says ITV’s investigation into Reform racism is a ‘good reminder’ of what he sees as the central political question facing Britain

The answer @AdnanHussainMP is the UK has lost its growth advantage vs our European partners.
We used to grow faster than France and Italy and roughly the same as Germany and the Netherlands but since Brexit we’ve lost our growth advantage except compared to Germany hit by a China-driven manufacturing crisis.
This is why we need unfettered access to our biggest market.

Interesting how big a lead Labour have opened in the North West and North East since Burnham became PM
Looking at weighted regional subsamples from published pollster crosstabs, Reform were ahead in both regions for around a year from July 2025
In the North West, Labour had a low of 19% in Nov 2025, with Reform reaching 38% in the same month
In the North East, Labour were as low as 18% in Dec 2025, and Reform peaked at 41% in Jan 2026
Labour are now on 39% in the NE and 37% in the NW, with Reform on 22% and 23%

NEW: At PMQs, Andy Burnham rules out deal with the Greens following their adoption of the Zionism motion at confefence:
Dame Harriett Baldwin: The leader of the opposition has made it crystal clear about doing deals with other parties. So will the Prime Minister make it equally clear, following the Green Party's descent into the most abhorrent anti-Semitism that he will rule out co-operating with them?
Andy Burnham: Mr. speaker, can I condemn the motion that was passed unequivocally? It is wrong. It is anti-Semitic, and this side of the House will have nothing to do with it. And we will always take the right response when it comes to any partnerships we have with other parties. We cannot support a partnership with a party that holds a position that has recently been adopted.
Encouraging results here

We listed some hypothetical conditions for rejoining. Joining the Euro was the most likely to be rated unacceptable, as were budget contributions of £20bn. A joint army, Ukraine joining and interestingly free movement were among the more acceptable conditions.

Working full-time on minimum wage can leave you earning too much for legal aid, yet unable to afford a lawyer.
I’ve tabled an amendment to raise legal aid thresholds before more cases move to magistrates’ courts. Your access to justice shouldn’t depend on your bank balance.

Brexit is back in the news this week. This is a video we made in June which looked in detail at Brexit's impact on the UK economy - and whether the UK is worse off because of Brexit. Produced by Katerina Karelli.

Zelenskyy: "When our strikes reached Yandex data centers, it suddenly became little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. Many people noticed it.
There was less hate, less division, fewer provocations because there were fewer bots. It's pretty clear where those bots were coming from.
If they disappeared when Yandex went offline, this proves once again that Europe is not the source of the problems."
The big problem is that Russia figured out how modern society consumes information a decade ago, but the West hasn't.
There are millions of bots commenting and posting Russian propaganda. There are paid influencers spreading it, with Russian bots supporting their content.
There is a gigantic machine operating to radicalize and influence Western societies, and there is not enough defense in place.
It doesn't just influence elections, it sows discord, engulfs societies in culture wars, radicalizes teenagers, and shapes political decisions when elected officials fail to read the room.
That needs to change. And fast.

Sheffield does not welcome masked boys dressed up as Blackshirts. We will not be intimidated by your pathetic thuggery. We will not allow racism to be normalised or people to be made to feel they don’t belong in their own communities.
I completely back Zahira’s demand for answers from South Yorkshire Police. How did this happen without warning? Why should people feel unsafe walking their own streets?
Sheffield was the UK’s first City of Sanctuary. We have a proud tradition of welcoming people fleeing persecution and war, and offering them community, peace and security.
I stand with Zahira, Fran and our communities. We will not be divided, and we will not let the far right define our city
