Emotional detachment is what remains after repeated experiences have taught someone that vulnerability comes at a cost. The newfound freedom comes at the price of no longer feeling what once made connection possible. What was once a recreational gamble, driven by excitement, uncertainty and the thrill of possibility, becomes an exercise in optimising for efficiency, minimising risk and maximising returns. Transactionalism replaces spontaneity, as every interaction becomes a calculation of what can be gained against what must be invested. In becoming less vulnerable to disappointment, you also become less receptive to the very experiences that once made the gamble worthwhile. To resent someone for their inability to open up is to condemn the consequence while disregarding what caused it.
