1/16 the ai industry is making an unusual bet: buy compute for years, sell intelligence by the token. banks, commodity merchants, airlines, utilities and cloud providers each explain a different part of the risk.

True. But unlike say India, Brazil is so well endowed with resources. Huge and growing oil reserves (not even fully exploited). Amazon. Hydropower for over half its electricity. Farmland that makes it the world’s largest food exporter. Massive rare-earth deposits. It can feed, fuel and power itself, which are such levers of strategic independence we can only dream of.
Some of you have asked me many times to suggest books to read. I never recommended any seriously.
But given the "war" India is going to face for the next few years, I would recommend reading at least one of the following:
(1) War Without Rules (Robert Spalding, 2022) - Easiest and Shortest.
(2) Unrestricted Warfare (The Original, 1999) - Good overview by China's own defense guys.
(3) The Long Game (Rush Doshi, 2021) - Technical and for those really interested in Geopolitics.
All three books detail China's unrestricted warfare methods. They all explain it by illustrating China's war on America mostly.
But you can always imagine America as India and read the books. The methods are the same. And they are being actively applied now.
If you are interested, here's an overview of some methods:
Political warfare - Influence and infiltrate politics of democracies like India to weaken the country from inside.
Psychological warfare: Spreading rumors, disinformation, and amplifying issues to erode the will, cohesion, and morale of the Indian government, military, and importantly general public.
Drug warfare: Facilitating or profiting from the spread of illicit drugs into India to destabilize society, strain security resources, and weaken the social fabric.
Cultural warfare: Promoting or amplifying cultural trends and narratives aimed at influencing Indian viewpoints in alignment with the adversary's interests. Appropriating culture while eroding the nation of its own heritage.
Media warfare, Law warfare, Network warfare, Technological warfare, Fabrication warfare, Resources warfare... there are many more methods.
Buy and read at least one of these books, you will know. Book (2) is legally available free on the internet to download.
Brazil had its moment in the sun. In its growth heyday in the 70s it really appeared that it was destined for an East Asian type miracle. And then it stagnated. Growth is not automatic. Prosperity is not a guarantee.

To all those who think 'solar energy' or any other 'sustainable' energy is the solution to our problems,
please take out 1.40 hours of your precious life and watch this documentary. It was made six years ago. 'Emotional' thinking doesn't solve the issues.

Say what you will of the Soviet commies, and at the end of the day they were genocidal monsters but they took a broken, illiterate, massively backward country in 1919 and by 1939 had made it an industrial powerhouse that outproduced all nations on earth except the USA.
Their military went from an absolute wreck in 1919 that collapsed at the first sign of contact to defeating arguably one of the most powerful militaries of all time by 1945

Markets can be investable (access issue) and interesting.
Sometimes there isn’t interest - like Japanese stocks pre Abenomics or European stocks post GFC
Korean stocks pre Semiconductor boom
India is in the phase of being not interesting.
New phase of markets.

This entire ‘sustainable development’ talk is a capitalist project to exploit people’s emotions and scam them with new realities while giving them a hope for a better world.
Liberals (read as Socialists) champion this nonsense every single day.

First there will be a protest against modernization. Wire, Bloomberg will tell us how hawkers and people sleeping on platform are getting adversely impacted by modernization. We will somehow manage to put something together and then people will dirty it. So development has begun to seem very difficult task now
In Jan 2025, I talk about how "a whole ecosystem will suddenly rise up to oppose the dam India will build" (this was before any work started).
- A dam to safeguard Indian plains from a mega dam China is constructing upstream.
In Oct 2026, we see the ecosystem activated.
