BREAKING: In Ambassador Chifamba’s farewell speech to @RamsarConv Standing Committee (which he has been is chairing while Zimbabwe holds the Presidency) he made two very important remarks that underscore Zimbabwe’s commitment to protecting wetlands. He said that in his new role as Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce he will be pushing “green industrialization that is WETLANDS FRIENDLY” 🌿 and that “Zimbabwe will have DOUBLED the number of Ramsar Sites” by COP16 in July 2028! 👏🎉🍾🌅 This is very encouraging. Now it’s time for action! 🤝 #WetlandsMatter #SaveMonavaleVlei #SaveLakeChivero @TMuguti @MonavaleWetland

SITUATING AMERICAN BILL: Zimbabweans, this is a major development for our country. Really big if it comes through, as looks likely. It is not easy to get America to rescind a law with bi-partisan support. Both the Republicans and Democrats supported ZDERA, making it a consensual American law against Zimbabwe. It has been with us - a huge albatross since 2001 - augmented by similar laws in Europe and its vicarious applications in various jurisdictions which genuflected to punitive American Sanctions in practice. JOE BIDEN initiated moves to end this odious, spiteful law by not renewing THE EXECUTIVE ORDER which successive American presidents since 2001 renewed as a matter of reflexive anti-Zimbabwean ritual. That included the current President during his first tenure. Trump, it would appear, has decided to finish off what Biden began, making the rescinding of the law as bi-partisan as its beginning. Zimbabwe worked hard, persistently pressing against this law, both at governmental and non-governmental levels. Above, at the level of regional, continental and intercontinental levels. SADC went as far as designating October 25 a SADC DAY AGAINST SANCTIONS ON ZIMBABWE. Today, less than a month shy of the ANTI-SANCTIONS MONTH, and a few years after TANZANIA UNDER LATE PRESIDENT MAGUFULI (MHDSRIEP) sponsored this resolution binding SADC to agitate against ZDERA, the Americans have started moving towards that end. If you consider that US sanctions against CUBA have subsisted for over half a century, and that the designation of NELSON MANDELA as a terrorist lived on well into his Presidency, this development FOR ZIMBABWE can hardly be minimized. Even greater is the fact that we have emerged from it, yes scarred and bruised bodily, but intact in terms of our ideals and trajectory!! Read that against Gaddafi’s Libya, and you get what I mean. Of course we still chafe that our President is still on sanctions, meaning the foremost face of the Zimbabwean State is still constrained, but this development presages many possibilities ahead. While NOT YET UHURU, we hear the sounds of breaking shackles a short distance away. I write like one who had the dubious honour of being among the FIRST GROUP TO BE PUT UNDER ZIDERA and among the penultimate group to be removed from the same. Well done President ED Mnangagwa; your Policy on ENGAGEMENT AND RE-ENGAGEMENT HAS DELIVERED ITS ULTIMATE FRUIT! Well, not quite yet, but arguably just about to!!! #EDWORKS!!!!!

I genuinely feel sad for South Africa. If you have a conversation with average young people in South Africa, the shallowness of it all will leave you gobsmacked. Zero depth. I fear for them if Trump & Elon go ahead and turn the screws on that country like Bush, Obama Trump & Biden did on Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe survived and has grown several times under those conditions. South Africa may not manage.

I have just ridden down to the Umzingwane river from Bulawayo to inspect its flow. Sadly as this video shows there is only a trickle. Our dam watch report released by the @CityofBulawayo yesterday shows that our dams, despite the good rains, are still only sitting at 37% full.

This is the British Foreign Minister, David Lammy, rallying international support to address the Sudan crisis. He describes it as worse than Gaza, calling it the worst humanitarian crisis on earth. Where are the African leaders? The last time, they flew private jets to Europe to try to stop a war more than 5,000 miles away, yet they remain silent about a crisis right on their doorstep! The absence of African leaders from the international conversation on Sudan is disheartening.

There are a lot of things to learn from Russia… But travelling all the way to learn about designing Mbare Musika says a lot about the quality of people in govt… The money they spend travelling could have been used for better things
A high-powered Zimbabwean delegation is currently in Kazan, Russia, for a technical exchange programme that will inform the re-designing of the Mbare Musika Traders market into a modern facility. zbcnews.co.zw/zim-delegation…

And what's wrong with an American president prioritizing American interests? Expecting an American to have African interests is pure madness. Rather African presidents should also adopt his stance, put Africa first

When Europeans boast about giving Africa aid, there are certain things you should know. In 2023 alone, 2.6 million Africans applied for Schengen visas. At US$86 per application, this totals approximately US$223.6 million. This amount represents just the application fees paid by African applicants, which are non-refundable, even for those whose applications are rejected. This shameless tactic of rejecting visas to African people who normally should get them is very deliberate, I have seen people who tick every box denied visas. It is a scam! Some European attitudes towards Africans haven’t changed since the Berlin conference. Many prominent Africans are scared to say this truth for fear of being cancelled from embassy functions and invite lists, it is embarrassing! It should be noted that this business of being beholden to Europeans is caused by the corrupt dictatorships we have that run our countries, our people have nowhere to turn to except going back to the colonisers. What is happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo is evil, and it is sad that African voices are quiet when their own people are dying like this, yet they make noise about conflicts away from the continent. Is African life less important than any other, is the death of a black person insignificant? Are you ashamed of speaking for your own people, only to suddenly find your voice when bad things happen elsewhere away from the continent? History will never respect Africans for allowing this to happen on their watch, especially those with voices who would rather be seen writing about conflicts elsewhere!

It’s shocking that we have PhD holders at @ZimTreasury & @ReserveBankZIM who implement VERY DUMP policies… How can you IMPOSE a FLAWED/COMMANDIST exchange rate on formal businesses? Mushayavanhu is very playful.. it was better if he had implemented the Willing Buyer Willing Seller policy, he didn’t… the “official exchange rate” is clearly not a market determined exchange rate… The RBZ MUST focus on keeping money supply growth in check… it must implement NORMAL POLICIES, not the nonsense they are doing … @MthuliNcube01 must remove his toxic taxes that disincentivise use of local currency… No one else is to blame, it’s the policymakers who should carry the blame…. Firing them and even jailing them should be considered…
