The copper who says she wouldn't report a rape to her own force… This morning a serving Met detective, DC Linda Williams, went public. She was raped in 2004 by a fellow officer, PC David Carrick, who is now serving life for sexual offences against her and 11 other women. She has waived her right to anonymity to speak. She sued the Met for failing to protect her. The case took four years. It's now settled for an undisclosed six-figure sum, and the Met hasn't admitted liability. She says the worst part was the commissioner's lawyers questioning how severe her PTSD could be because she'd been raped "only once". The BBC has seen a Met document saying a key factor in valuing her claim was that the "abuse itself was isolated to a single episode". She's now calling for Sir Mark Rowley to resign. The BBC calls it "an unprecedented move for a serving officer". A detective publicly telling her own commissioner to go. Here's what's really going on. 1. **"Without acceptance of liability."** This is how most civil claims against police forces end. The force pays out, but no judge ever rules that it failed. It's cheaper than a trial, sets no precedent and leaves no judgment for the next claimant to point to. Lawyers call it routine. To the person on the other end, it reads as "here's your money, and we still say we did nothing wrong." 2. **The "single episode" line.** In a damages claim, the other side argues over what it's worth, and how long the abuse went on is one of the things they weigh. That's the cold mechanics. But it's the commissioner's name on that case. You can't stand up in public saying victims come first while your lawyers run that line in private against one of your own detectives. Somebody senior should have read that document and stopped it before it went out. 3. **Carrick was no secret.** Sky reports he came to police attention nine times between 2000 and 2021, including allegations of rape, domestic violence, harassment and assault. None led to a criminal sanction or a misconduct finding. He passed vetting to join in 2001. He was re-vetted in 2017, years overdue because of backlogs, and passed again. After a rape arrest in July 2021, he wasn't re-vetted at all. Every incident was looked at on its own and closed. Anyone who's done the job knows how that happens: no further action from another force, a word from the line manager, file shut. The pattern only shows up if someone's actually paid to look for it. 4. **The line that should worry everyone.** In the early 2000s she was a rape investigation officer herself. She supported victims through the process, but didn't report her own rape. She says that if it happened tomorrow, she still wouldn't report it to the Met. When the people who know the system best won't use it, that tells you more than any culture-change press release. **What the press is missing.** The criminal side is done. Hertfordshire Police brought Carrick to justice, and Linda came forward after seeing he'd been charged over another woman. This fight is about how forces treat their own when they're the victim, and whether change at the top reaches the people on the ground. The Met says it tried to reduce her distress and deal with her claims "as quickly and compassionately as possible", and Rowley has asked to meet her again. Both things can be true, and the process can still have failed her. As someone who wore the uniform, I'll say it plainly. If a victim inside your own building doesn't trust you to handle her case, the job isn't finished. Links: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckdd… news.sky.com/story/david-car…

@andyburnham called himself a man of the people and has promised hope. As PM he needs to honour his long-standing support for #ExcludedUK victims and meet with us to discuss the financial restitution he has long championed. @APPGGapsSupport @UKLabour @GMB @PA @BBCBreakfast
FAIR. PROPORTIONATE. DOABLE. In this video from our ExcludedUK livestream on 24 June 2024, Andy Burnham said: “I think there are ways we can start to frame financial asks that I think are fair, proportionate and doable.” Those words matter even more today. Andy has been our loudest political champion from the beginning of the ExcludedUK campaign. He has recognised that the exclusion of 3.8 million UK taxpayers from parity of Covid-19 financial support was not simply unfortunate. It was an injustice that must be rectified. He told us: “The public see you and the public support you.” He promised: “We will work with you to make sure that the excluded is recognised as one of the injustices that this country needs to rectify.” He also made clear: “I supported you back in the pandemic, and we support you now. The passage of time doesn’t change that.” Now, as Prime Minister, Andy has the opportunity to work with ExcludedUK and the Gaps in Covid-19 Financial Support APPG to turn those words into action. We are ready to discuss financial asks that are fair, proportionate and achievable. After more than six years, the 3.8 million cannot simply be written off. Businesses, homes, livelihoods and futures were lost. More than 40 members of our community saw no other way out than to take their own lives. Recognition is fair. Accountability is proportionate. Justice is doable. Prime Minister, let us begin that work. excludeduk.org #ExcludedUK #WeAreNotGoingAway #Relentless

KEIR STARMER HAS NOT BEEN SUMMONED BY THE GROOMING GANGS INQUIRY. HE HAS BEEN PROTECTED BY IT. For decades, little White girls were gang raped and sold by Pakistani men whilst the people responsible for protecting them looked the other way. Despite the overwhelming odds against us, we forced a National Inquiry. Now the headlines are telling you that Keir Starmer is finally being summoned to answer questions. BUT THERE IS SOMETHING THEY ARE NOT TELLING YOU. Starmer has actually been granted additional legal rights inside the National Grooming Gangs Inquiry. Rights to see relevant evidence, instruct lawyers and challenge evidence through the inquiry's procedures. This is not the same as being compelled to testify. And he is not the only senior political figure protected. Yvette Cooper, Shabana Mahmood and Angela Rayner have also been named as 'core participants'. So who is actually being held to account? And who is being given the opportunity to protect their interests? I have published an article examining what the announcements really mean and the questions Baroness Longfield must answer. Luftar Rhaman (not the noodles) Mayor of Tower Hamlets was banned for standing for office because of corruption and then..... decided to put himself on the ballot anyway and won twice. When the Express interviewed about 70 people in Tower Hamlets, they found one gay who voted Green (of course she did) but looked very uncomfortable speaking out in public. One women Hindi I think who spoke perfect English and the rest couldn't pass a kindergarten English lesson. Ironically all who own businesses 🤔 Anyway back to corruption and visas ...... allegedly 😁 See what I did there. They decided to open up a 'culturally sensitive' drug rehabilitation program. Basically meaning because it's culturally sensitive no records can be kept about spending 😁😁😁 All seems above board so far . The Bangladeshi drugs project for £2 million. The entire service is run by 3 people. 2 of whom work for ...... drum roll please The council that gave the project £2 million The guy that gave the money to the 'charity' work's in children and family services which is linked to drug rehabilitation What a coincidence Muriel. And another ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE coincidence Most of the people living in Tower Hamlets all come from the same province in Pakistan. Must have been a good year for asylum seekers eh 🤔 Ive got a mate who knows a mate whos got a cousin that works on the council if you want a house

🚨 @jodymcintyre_. government investigations are your thing. Please take a look at the #ExcludedUK scandal. After everything Andy Burnham has done and promised, his silence now is devastating. How can this injustice still be ignored? 💔 @GMB @itvnews @peterjukes @SkyNews @PA
It's truly dreadful that people think the pandemic is over...when there are thousands still paying their Bounce Back LOANs...when the other 90% of UK taxpayers were awarded grants that they didn't have to pay back. #ExcludedUK don't have a problem with that, nobody would have survived without them... but why were 10% left out?!? Why was it OK for 1 member of ExcludedUK to take their own life, let alone 40... and they are the ones we have been notified about....there will be thousands more we don't know about... Last Friday another #ExcludedUK member lost their house as they could not keep up with mortgage AND BBL repayments.... how is that even allowed??!!? @MartinSLewis your team told Head of #ExcludedUK, Jennifer Griffiths, that you could not campaign with us any longer as you were concentrating on your own projects... but nothing has changed since you last campaigned with us...in fact, it has got worse... more people have lost homes, businesses, personal possessions, and lives! Please help us... I know you are busy, but despite all his promises, @andyburnham has gone quiet on us! Jennifer is still dealing with attempted suicides and the families of those who have taken their own life as a result of being excluded... it is just not right! Please email Jennifer and work out a way to help us. [email protected] excludeduk.org

@AndyBurnham stood beside me at conferences, demanded restitution and promised to meet me. I believed him, but since becoming PM nothing but silence. After four PMs ignored us this betrayal cuts deep. We #ExcludedUK trusted him but now abandoned us @EdwardJDavey @Kevin_Maguire
📢 #IsItOK to campaign alongside 3.8 million excluded UK taxpayers for over SIX YEARS, promise them justice, then fall silent when you become Prime Minister? @andyburnham, we are still waiting for answers. #IsItOK that another #ExcludedUK member was made homeless last Friday... the fourth house last in the last SIX weeks!!! We thought you were trying to end homelessness?!?!!! For well over six years, Andy Burnham was one of the most vocal and passionate political supporters of #ExcludedUK, campaigning WITH us for the millions of hardworking UK taxpayers who were wholly or partially excluded from meaningful Covid-19 financial support. These included freelancers, the self-employed, small business owners, company directors and thousands of people, including those working in the TV and film industries, many of whom saw their livelihoods disappear overnight. Andy did not simply offer a few words of sympathy. He actively campaigned alongside us, co-hosting several events with Jennifer Griffiths, Head of ExcludedUK, speaking directly to our members, listening to their devastating experiences and repeatedly pledging his support. 🎥 WATCH THE ATTACHED VIDEO In this recording, Andy Burnham promises to pursue financial remedy AND a public apology for those so appallingly let down. He knew the human cost of exclusion. He knew that at least 40 people had taken their own lives, with their deaths reported to ExcludedUK in connection with the devastating consequences of being denied support. He has described the exclusion as "indefensible" and said a solution was "fair, proportionate and doable". Yet since becoming Prime Minister, the man who stood beside us for well over six years appears to have fallen silent. 📩 Our emails and messages to Andy Burnham have gone unanswered. 📩 Our correspondence to Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP has also failed to secure the answers and action we have been seeking. 💔 Families are still grieving. Lives and livelihoods remain shattered. People are still living with the financial and psychological consequences of decisions made more than six years ago. Attemtped suicides are still a regular occurence! Not even the promised apology has materialised. 💥 An apology costs NOTHING! No Treasury funding. No Budget allocation. No complicated financial calculations. An apology is FREE, and that is something we can ALL afford! So, Andy, we ask you: ❓ #IsItOK to promise hope to millions of people and then leave them waiting when you finally have the power to deliver? ❓ #IsItOK to acknowledge the devastating human cost of exclusion but still fail to provide even a public apology? ❓ #IsItOK for those who dutifully paid into the system, but were deliberately left out, to still be fighting for justice more than SIX YEARS later? Andy, you stood with us when you were campaigning. We need you to stand with us now that you are in power. 3.8 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN. We are not going away. #ExcludedUK #IsItOK #TheLastLeg #AndyBurnham #JohnHealey #Channel4 #AdamHills #JoshWiddicombe #AlexBrooker #TVandFilm #Freelancers #SelfEmployed #Covid19 #CovidSupport #ExcludedFighter #WeAreNotGoingAway #Relentless

If they told you Keir Starmer had been summoned to the National Grooming Gangs Inquiry, then what they told you was a lie. The headlines are concealing something far more important. The truth is that the very people whose decisions should be scrutinised are being granted additional legal rights inside the inquiry. That is what participant status actually means. I've spent eight years exposing what happened to vulnerable children while those in positions of power escaped meaningful accountability. I am not going to stand by and let them manipulate you like this. Today's extra article exposes the crucial distinction the headlines have failed to explain. Read it. Share it. Another 10 transcripts of grooming gang sentencing remarks I’ve worked through today. The details are horrific. I’ve already had to step away, mindful of my own trauma and limits. Behind every transcript are victims who suffered horrific sexual abuse. Their suffering must never be forgotten
🧵 Today the Centre for Justice Policy is publishing 10 new grooming gang sentencing remarks from Rochdale, Huddersfield, Rotherham, High Wycombe, Nottingham and Chelmsford. Some had no reporters in the room, and coverage of the rest missed much of what the judges said.
