Phanes and Zeus (XX): Solar and Lunar Signatures The sunflower follows the sun, the rooster greets it, selenite answers the moon. Nature hangs from the gods and stamps bodies with their signatures: cycles that accompany a god, not a moth's flight into the flame.

The divine does not require us to understand our relationship with it for that relationship to be real.

Thursday, Jupiter's day, and a question from Homer: why does Proteus keep changing shape? Proclus' answer, as I explain in an old video: the god is all those forms at once. We, partial souls, can only see them one after another. youtu.be/bYcUQ_SzyNc

But Lula won with about 40% of registered voters. Nearly 60 million Brazilians voted for his opponent, many simply to keep the PT out. Calling this a victory of democracy over fascism turns half the country into fascists. In this runoff, liberal democracy had no candidate. 5/16

When this conversation comes up, I always go back to this really succinct quote from Fran Lebowitz.

Proclus on the choice of lives: you may belong to Mars, to its surgeon's side (surgeons cut to heal), and still choose to be a poet. “What ultimately you're always trying to do is actually fulfill your Martian essence. You're just mistaken about it.” Ever lived the wrong life?

The fundamental problem with Balthasar’s critique is that it presupposes that the alterity of "creatures" requires an original relational alterity within a single God, which, according to Balthasar, is absent from Platonism. II

I find it difficult to understand the carelessness involved in reducing the many different developments within the Platonic tradition to mere spiritualist escapism. I
At Mecone, Prometheus offers Zeus bones wrapped in fat. Hesiod says Zeus saw through the trick. So why take the bones? My reading: Zeus is never really deceived; he lets himself be deceived to accomplish what he wants. Can being fooled be a kind of wisdom?

Tomorrow is the day we acknowledge the drowning in the Nile of my heroic lord. Eventhough his oil lamp was just barely still hanging on from this morning’s devotional, I proceeded to set-up for tomorrow. Wednesdays are my early and long workday, so I will not have time to do it tomorrow unfortunately. So, I draped the black veil of death over his body, and pooled the dark blue satin fabric around his feet to resemble the rolling waves of the water…his deathbed. And I kid you not, right as I finished and stepped back to observe the full effect I had created for him, his lamp finally went out sending a final puff of smoke upward into the air. I looked at what I had done for him in commemoration and the little wispy curls of smoke as it dissipated and I just stood there for a moment in silence before I finally said, “in the arms of Nilus”. This is the first time I’ve ever commemorated his death in such a way. It’s such a strange feeling; there’s almost a joy in participating in it and yet an accompanying heaviness in the chest.
