regardless of whether you think Nithya should be a DSA endorsed candidate (i personally don’t!) this demand—in purely practical terms—is so obviously setting the chapter and candidate up to fail. i do not respect a maneuver that is so blatantly trying to make an example of her.

The resolution on rescinding her endorsement (which narrowly passed 14-13) calls on Raman to meet with DSA-LA leaders on Oct. 31 to explain her position on BDS. If she does not satisfactorily affirm her support for BDS, the NPC will vote on Nov. 1 to force DSA-LA to withdraw its endorsement of her. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

this org does not work if the npc is going to be passing contradictory resolutions that provoke our second largest chapter and set up a short deadline for aggressive enforcement action commanded by 14 people who only have machetes, no scalpels.

raman has been the topic of discourse for MONTHS. how has neither DSA-LA nor the NPC been able to resolve this until literal days before the election. even if you support an unendorsement, at that point it won’t even do anything. i just don’t get how we’ve reached this point.

hey could everyone just claim victory for moving nithya after her last statement and move on rather than kamikaze-ing national and LA’s relationship into the side of a mountain for no reason right before election day

DSA is such a paradox cuz it’s made up of 120k+ of the most militant & committed fighters against capitalism who are being led by the nose by a few dozen opportunistic Sectarians who are trying to lead us in to a sweeping fascist victory under the guise of “principled leadership”
The DSA National Political Committee has voted to unendorse and expel Nithya Raman She has until October 31 to express clear direct support for BDS to retain endorsement, and until January 1 to condemn weapon shipments for Israel out of LAX to remain a member of DSA Both resolutions are linked below

I'm glad to see that the NPC's insistence over months that all DSA-affiliated candidates must support BDS towards Palestinian liberation has moved one of the most notoriously recalcitrant chapter endorsees in the country to finally support BDS. Big win for electoral red lines
Nithya Raman has been criticized by DSA members for not supporting BDS. She now says "I believe the best way for working Angelenos to stand in solidarity with Gaza is through non-violent protest, legislative action, and diplomatic pressure, including BDS."

The fact that the resolution calling on her to meet with DSA to discuss BDS on Oct. 31 and the resolution calling on her to meet with DSA to discuss BDS by Nov. 30 both passed is kind of absurd. It's setting up separate timelines for the same thing.

If only we published articles on anti-ICE resistance too…oh wait geesemag.com/articles/what-t… geesemag.com/articles/what-t… geesemag.com/articles/what-w…
agree with this and also probably the number one thing that mobilized liberals under Trump 2.0 has been resistance to police brutality, in the form of ICE. backlash to Flock, meanwhile, is cross-partisan. it's bizarre how these issues have sailed right past elements of the left.

Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman sent the following statement to DSA-LA explaining her position on BDS, which in turn was shared with DSA's National Political Committee: Over the last couple of years, I have come to believe strongly that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, and I have felt deeply uncomfortable with US tax dollars funding this atrocity. In November 2023, I was the first councilmember to recognize the lives lost in Palestine by adjourning a council meeting in honor of those killed in Gaza. Several months later, I called for an investigation into LAPD's violent response to the encampments and protests at USC and UCLA, noting that it is "incumbent upon the City to be transparent and accountable to Angelenos about how their safety and civil rights are being protected, and for that protection to be equally provided regardless of one's politics, identity and protected free speech." And in June 2024, I co-authored the Los Angeles ceasefire resolution to ask that "the City joins the call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional return of all hostages, and the safe and immediate passage of unhindered humanitarian aid and medical care to Gaza; and ... that the City will not tolerate any form of harmful and racist language, especially antisemitic, anti-Palestinian, and Islamophobic hate speech toward anyone; and ... that the City supports peaceful diplomacy and an end to the conflict that honors all peoples' right to dignity, safety, and justice." I believe the best way for working Angelenos to stand in solidarity with Gaza is through non-violent protest, legislative action, and diplomatic pressure, including BDS. As mayor, I will continue to protect the right of all people to engage in peaceful protests and would continue to oppose any policy or city legislation imposing penalties on the constitutional right to protest against or criticize any nation. Generations of Angelenos do not want their tax dollars to go toward endless wars when they are struggling to make rent, find housing, afford healthcare, and find stable work.

Well going to go off on a limb and say that the left abandoning Brandon Johnson because he did a lot of progressive actions we want people like Mamdani to do—ending police contracts, deploying social workers, and being a literal CTU candidate—and faced backlash… is actually bad
NPC colleague just suggested DSA should support not just Nithya Raman but Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson as well. I thought the DSA right wanted to support any candidate who is popular and effective regardless of their politics. Apparently unpopular and ineffective is good too!

Just another point in the weird strangeness of the DSA’s left approach to elections, which seems dominated by vibes and super deliverism. Doubly stranger to post like this the week after defending LLG (who is great btw). But i suppose he doesn’t have friends who like Johnson like they like LLG

@NYCMayor this is getting ridiculous
⚡️ Mayor Zohran Mamdani's NYPD is poised to sign a three-year, $750,500 no-bid contract with Israeli surveillance firm Cognyte for FalcoNet, an AI-driven device that mimics a cell tower to track phones and can be mounted on police cars and drones or hidden in a backpack, the New York Daily News reported. Cognyte won a tender to sell intercept spyware to Myanmar's state telecom weeks before the 2021 military coup, Reuters previously reported. Meta banned the firm the same year, saying its customers used fake accounts to target journalists and politicians in Kenya, Mexico and Indonesia. The firm is part of an Israeli surveillance industry that grew big as a result of the military's monitoring of Palestinians, whose phone calls Israel's Unit 8200 has intercepted and stored by the millions, including to carry out genocide in Gaza and enforce a brutal illegal occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Don’t worry guys this is nothing. Stop fearmongering. Nothing happens. You’re actually the one harming people by addressing this. 1 million people is not a big deal, it’s all the same anyway. Stop being upset about this, nothing is happening. I can’t believe you think Trump does things
President Trump deported 980,000 illegal immigrants in the first 18 months of his second term, between January 2025 and July 2026, according to a MPI analysis of government data. Follow: @AFpost
