We have some extremely sad news to announce today.
The incredibly courageous Squadron Leader Robert Burke, who was instrumental in our campaign and helped to clear the pilots of blame, has died at the age of 86.
Our thoughts are with his family. RIP

Ruislip Residents’ Association calls for review of parking charge increases!
Hillingdon Council has approved parking increases that could see residents paying over 70% more in many locations. Ask councillors to review the decision here: ruislipresidents.org.uk/park…

I attended the Prime Minister's rough sleeping summit at 10 Downing Street 🏠
It was encouraging to see so many organisations working together on this and I'm looking forward to exploring how we can support these efforts in Hillingdon.

Graduates and students are losing trust in a student finance system that is no longer working for them.
I raised the long-term impact of student loans in Parliament and called for a review of whether the current system is fair.
Do you think graduates are getting a fair deal?

Fantastic to see London’s own Harry Kane crowned Ballon d’Or winner tonight! 🏆
A stunning 73 goals last season and another huge moment for England’s captain 👏🏾

During WWI, William Faulkner was rejected by the U.S. Army. He went to Canada and joined the RCAF. Never made it overseas, didn’t even get to fly a plane until after the War.
Then he returns to Oxford, MS in a fake RAF officer’s uniform, carrying a cane and affecting a limp. 😂
hearing for the first time that novelist Patrick O'Brian (of _Master & Commander_ fame) invented much of his own biography,
didn't know how to sail & had no practical experience doing it, wasn't Anglo-Irish gentry but rather English working class, barely educated, concealed his early marriage...
Everything he learned about sailing & the 19th c was from obsessive research & reading books.
O'Brian comes out to be a far more puzzling, eccentric, twisted, anachronistic figure who lived in isolation on a small hobby farm in France, deeply secretive, insecure, brooding, exiled, aloof, yet TOTALLY COMMITTED TO THE BIT.
I like him even more now (am currently reading Master & Commander)

I don’t think I ever believed I’d see a newspaper paragraph like this: President Trump ‘said he would welcome immigrants from Denmark but not from Norway “because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize, so I don’t want anybody from Norway”.’

I’ve just come off a Unison picket line for striking Camden traffic wardens. They were privatised by Camden Council years ago. I was on their picket lines in 2012. They work 42.5 hours a week on low pay. They are striking for an extra £2 an hour and to have their leave entitlement the same as the council workers, which means an extra 7 days. The company is NSL, whose top manager is on £619,000 - £330 an hour. Some wonderful supporter brought a solidarity chocolate cake to the picket line. The traffic warden service should be brought back in house. Solidarity. @unisontheunion

I’ve just spent a great 24 hours in Oslo. But 2 of those hours were spent in the passport queue in & out. It’s one thing to blame Brexit, but when announcements said “have all your documents ready to speed up the queue” (as if it was the passengers fault) it was the last straw.

What an incredible moment.
For 35 years, Asif Hasan has given children the chance to grow up, and families the chance to make memories they might otherwise never have had.
Seeing him surrounded by those whose lives he has changed says it all.
Thank you, Asif, for everything you've done. You represent the very best of our NHS.
World-leading cardiac surgeon Asif Hasan was surrounded by the children who received the gift of life thanks to his unerring skills at the emotional climax of another memorable Pride of Britain ceremony. 🥹
Now 70 years old, Mr Hasan has just retired after 35 years of service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, but just after receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award, he had an extra special surprise: a cast of patients who would not be alive without him. ❤️
