Change to #ThwaitesGlacier, #Antarctica constitutes the largest uncertainty in #sealevel rise forecasts. The Science Coordination Office of the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration recently summarised some key findings in a briefing document - thwaitesglacier.org/findings
I don't post on this sespit very often these days but just want to express my thanks to Dr Sharma and his colleagues at Clinic 9 (Urgent Treatment) @CUH_NHS Addenbrookes hospital who dealt with me efficiently and with good humour today after a painful fall from my bike.
Nice to see the white and yellow lines refreshed recently on Grange Road @CambsCC, but did your contractor run out of paint for the cycle lane markers?

Ice loss on Konkordiaplatz, Great Aletsch Glacier, during summer 2026. No words...
A layer of almost 6 metres of ice is gone. In the center of the biggest glacier of the Alps. It is hard to grasp even for glaciologists.

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface

The amazing Prof. Richard Alley explains how we know the recent rapid rise in CO2 was due to burning fossil fuels; the driver of current rapid, harmful warming!

The global surface temperature record is one of the most iconic figures in climate science.
We now have 12 different groups of researchers from the US, UK, EU, Japan, and China (among others) that have calculated it and found nearly identical results:

A year ago, the government said it was “seizing control” of the planning process to speed up delivery of the Fens Reservoir - 12 months on the start date remains the same.

Humans have emitted 2750 gigatons of CO2 since the industrial revolution from burning fossil fuels and land use change. To put this in perspective, this is more than the (dry) mass of all living things on earth and everything humans have ever built combined:

Scientists developed the first climate models in the late 1960s (for which the Nobel Prize in physics was recently awarded!).
How have these models held up against what happened in the real world after they were published? Surprisingly well, it turns out:

A quick look back at 2025 regarding the instability risk of the Atlantic Ocean circulation #AMOC.
Some bad, some positive news.
A meta-analysis of 768 runs with 38 CMIP6 climate models shows an #AMOC shutdown is not a low-probability event any more. 1/6 iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

Finances are highly stretched in UK higher education, but it's hard to understand a uni cutting a field critical to the energy transition and understanding of the changes taking place in the world today.
Posting this here because there are probably quite a number of people on this platform who live in the affected areas.

An Antarctic glacier shrank by nearly 50% in two months, the fastest retreat in modern history. It could spell trouble for sea levels, report finds.

• Where and when will glacier retreat accelerate?
• How stable are the shear margins that bound Thwaites Glacier?
• How much of what we have learnt about the Thwaites system can be translated to improve our understanding of other ice shelf/glacier systems globally?
