🐋 DeepSeek didn't just drop "another open model." They open-sourced a gold-medal system — IMO, IOI, ICPC World Finals — at roughly ~25× cheaper than GPT-5 and ~30× cheaper than Gemini 3 Pro on output tokens. DeepSeek-V3.2-Speciale beats Gemini 3.0 Pro on multiple math/code benchmarks. The base model lands around GPT-5-High. But the benchmarks aren't the story. The recipe is: * Fix long-context cost (a new sparse attention mechanism) * Spend real RL compute (10%+ of pre-training budget) * Treat agents as first-class (85k tasks, 1,800 synthetic environments) Here’s how DeepSeek actually built it:

> created Linux kernel at 21 > built Git because no existing tool was good enough > becomes backbone of servers, Android, cloud, supercomputers > never chased fame, money, titles, hype > stays private, consistent, brutally honest for decades > still reviews patches, still improves Linux > avoids drama like it's a feature > influences the entire tech world without even trying > lives quietly, does the work, no noise Linus Torvalds is truly the most underappreciated legend of the tech industry
