Spend most of my golf time at Ponkapoag & Leo J, two affordable public courses with great layouts, surrounding nature & regular people. Don’t mind that they’re not well maintained. East Potomac sounds similar. It would be a shame to sacrifice public access for something fancy.
Today I tried to answer a bunch of questions about the East Potomac situation — where we are, how we got here, where things might go next, and what I think about it all. thefriedegg.com/articles/don…
That Flutie TD call is seared in my brain. RIP Dan.
We've lost a great one. Dan Davis is gone. Davis was the longtime Update Guy at @ESPNRadio but he's best known for his radio call of @DougFlutie's Hail Mary pass in 1984. Davis was one helluva broadcaster & his call of Flutie's pass was epic. tinyurl.com/huejbsna

There’s some context missing from the East Potomac debate online.
I can see why a public, championship level golf course is exciting directly next to downtown DC right there on a prime piece of real estate. (I don’t have a ton of faith in Tom Fazio taking on this task or in the ability for a municipal maintenance crew to take that on in perpetuity, but I digress.)
The whole grow/shrink thing is tiring, but I don’t think golf should grow in this direction.
There is no lack of championship golf in DC area (Congressional + Potomac + Woodmont + Baltimore + Caves Valley are all championship ready today). There is no lack of places to play for bros on golf trips, and there is no lack of up-and-coming clubs (think Old Barnwell). The game is rife with fashionistas, equipment junkies, and logomaxxers.
In general I’d say one thing that’s lacking generally is simple, good, affordable municipal golf. Not in a granola bar kind of way to do the contrived ‘grow the game’ thing, but rather having recreation for people of the city.
Anyone who went to East Potomac could see how busy the range was. There’d be 20-something dudes getting in some practice after work. There’d be kids. There’d often be dates. There’d be old people. One time I saw Dave Matthews Band drummer right next to me.
I think it would be sad for that to be lost. I hope whatever ends up in its place maintains that function for the people of DC.

Everybody knows billion dollar TV contracts for college sports are due to the public’s insatiable desire to watch & wager on assistants 👍

kyle kuzma brought up the second apron at bucks media day so i asked him in a follow up if it's something he's talked about with other players/agents
he spoke for nearly five minutes
"it affects team building, it affects our minds"

An "opposing coach" had this to say about Drake Maye, and you can imagine they only say this because they're promised anonymity
"The best players, their fundamentals are impeccable, repeatable. This guy's are not. He has nervous, happy feet. He does not throw off a sturdy platform. He is not real accurate on the move, and tries the heroics," the coach said. After a pause, he added, "He looks like he is watching (Patrick) Mahomes and (Aaron) Rodgers in primetime games and is at the flag football game on Saturday afternoon trying to play copycat."

This stat led me down a bit of a rabbit hole.
Since the first quarter in Seattle (11 quarters), the Patriots have had 25 meaningful drives.
- 19 (76%) have gone into opposing territory ... that's good.
- 7 scoring drives (37%) - 29 points (2 TDs, 5 FGs)
- Turned the ball over 9 times (47%) - 4 INTs, 2 FUM, 2 MFG, 1 downs
- Haven't scored a TD on last 12 drives into opposing territory
Just brutal. I mean, they're moving the ball and then ...
From @NextGenStats:
The Patriots drove into Jaguars territory on seven occasions but failed to score a touchdown on any of those drives, their most drives in opponent territory without a touchdown since Week 8, 2003, against the Browns.
Entering today, the Patriots had gone 33 consecutive games scoring at least one touchdown.

Damn.......Chris Simms, my apologies. I was not familiar with your game.
He absolutely NAILED the stupidity of Ted Cruz going on ESPN's College Gameday last week to push that STUPID and RIDICULOUS "Protect College Sports Act".
His rick fuck buddies are mad that young (predominantly black) men can decide their worth, get paid thru bidding wars to ply their trade as players and choose what university they get tot play for...making these universities a fuck ton of money in the process. Ted Cruz and his ilk are engaging in a form of plantation owner mentality and it's disgusting to see it. I appreciate Chris Simms calling him and ESPN out for even giving this a platform.
