Excuse me, but about 500,000 "ordinary Russians" are right now fighting to exterminate Ukraine right now.
About 120,000 "ordinary Russians" have already been killed in this war to exterminate Ukraine, which is unprecedented since WWII, and this war sees no end in sight.
Up to 25,000 "ordinary Russians" are joining the Russian military every single month to get some real crazy money for helping exterminate Ukraine.
Russia's overall military force deployed to exterminate Ukraine is expected to grow to about 700,000 "ordinary Russians" by the end of 2024, and another wave of mass mobilization is very likely.
Yet, no nationwide protests, no military trains derailed en masse by those protesting against exterminating Ukraine, no war of national resistance in Russia to stop this madness, the idiocy of which is simply very hard for a sane mind to apperceive.
It's not just "Putin's war".
It's a war to exterminate Ukraine supported actively by "regular Russians" poisoned by the Kremlin's Nazi propaganda of hatred and/or those participating in the extermination of Ukraine for money, which meets no resistance from those who opt towards omission.
This is much deeper than just "a dictator waging a war of aggression".
This is about a very large nation, in which an aggressive totalitarian regime has built its power largely on the consolidating idea of exterminating and devouring a neighboring nation.

Wake up Europe, the digital age is bypassing you. You have no Google , Amazon, Meta, Apple. You arrogantly called SpaceX a fanciful dream and it wiped out the European Space Agency. You have no Nvidia and your response to AI has been to regulate before you have anything domestic to regulate. Your car industry is about to be wiped out by the Chinese. Your biggest economy shut down nuclear out of spite and with fraud. Your capital markets have no liquidity and your startups are drowning in bureaucracy. Your border is being attacked by Russia and your defence spending will have to triple just to be where it was with US subsidy given that part of the former Soviet Union and the Eastern bloc is now part of the EU. Your economy has slumped from the world’s largest to way behind the US. Your pensions are paid by three times less people and cost five times as much as people live longer. Your infrastructure is a model for the world but is configured for rail over self drive. Your electricity grid needs half a trillion of investment to cope with planned capacity and replacements, for the switch to renewables, within a decade. There are bright spots such as pharma and your healthcare system is a model for what civilisation looks like it. But to afford it, you need to completely transform from the industrial to digital age, to reform your institutions and rout the sclerotic bureaucratic system.

1/ I’m an Israeli academic. My community is still too silent about the war in Gaza. Following my viral tweet last month, this is the updated & expanded version of how I see things based on >1000 articles and 1000s of videos/images of the war. 🧵of summary conclusions:

Seven facts about America's economy in 2024:
1) Wages are growing faster than inflation.
2) Inflation is falling faster in America than other G7 countries.
3) Middle class families aren't getting poorer, they're moving into upper classes.
4) Household debt isn't skyrocketing, it's falling relative to GDP.
5) Millennials and Gen Z aren't poorer than their parents, they're accumulating wealth faster than previous generations.
6) Jobs numbers aren't rigged, less people have multiple jobs and more people have full time jobs than before the pandemic.
7) The world isn't getting poorer, extreme poverty has declined by 90% in the last century.
Demagogues and right wing populists don't want you to know these facts.
They spread economic lies and amplify doomerism to convince you the system needs to be torn down.
But the data tells a totally different story.
Remember, decline is a choice.
All of these trends can, and will, be reversed by protectionism, isolationism, and economic nationalism.
Don't choose decline.
Choose prosperity.

Each second, 1.5 million tons of solar material, traveling at 100 miles per second, shoot off the sun. Earth's magnetic field deflects most of it, but not all. The solar wind, a stream of charged particles, flows at 447 km/s (1 million mph), and while the magnetic field protects us, some particles still cause auroras and geomagnetic storms.

A major problem with environmentalists is that they have no insight into their own beliefs.
It's a bit like someone calling himself a 'Christian', but who has never read the Bible -- not even the bits about Jesus.
They believe that something called 'science' exists, and has made unimpeachable claims. But they have no idea what these claims are, how they were developed, how they are tested, what limitations and vulnerabilities they have, what confidence we can place in them, and how they may be countered in broader debates about how to respond to them, if at all.
Consequently, they believe that everything they believe is given by science absolutely, and that thus they are equipped to vanquish deniers with absolute truth -- the mission that they appoint themselves to, which requires them to observe no normal standards of discussion or debate, for which they are woefully inadequately equipped emotionally or intellectually. The claims they make do not need to be defended, because there is no debate, only science vs denial.
And so their claims, to the extent that any sense can be made of them at all, lack coherence, lack discipline, lack relevance to the discussions in which they intervene. They frequently imagine the positions they seemingly fight against. And they invent the motivations of the opposing position, to find evidence of bad faith. They move wildly from claim to unrelated claim -- such as species extinction to UKIP to arctic ice cover -- in discussions that have no relation to those topics, as their points are answered.
I call this species of renegade climate warrior the Consensus Enforcer. They are typically anonymous, and have significantly overestimated their abilities. They have little to no capacity for basic comprehension -- perhaps the trait that gives rise to their inability to focus on the topic at hand, and their whataboutery meanderings though every topic in the constellation of green scare stories. And they have no capacity for abstract thought, most significantly for the means by which the truthfulness of a claim can be evaluated, whether science, logic, arithmetic or some other objective process -- for them, truth and institutional authority are synonymous. Consequently they have no ability to understand when their argument is exhausted, when they have argued against themselves, and when they are making a hopeless case.
A paraphrased but real argument, for example, from yesterday:
"Northern hemisphere snow cover has not decreased"
"97 per cent of scientists disagree".
The green makes a transparent error. He believes he is arguing with a denier, and that the denier's claim must be false, because the consensus, which he is in possession of and which his counterpart does not, divides the debate into science vs denial.
But what the Consensus Enforcer reveals is that he has no capacity for reason. He is a copy-and-paste artist. He has deferred his reasoning and even his ability to read to institutional authority. Nothing could dissuade him from his opinion, no matter how far his own claim is from the actual substance of the actual substance of the scientific consensus (as represented by the IPCC), the authority of which he claims for his argument.
The Consensus Enforcer is arguing therefore for a consensus without an object. It is an empty consensus. It is hollow. It can mean whatever he claims it means, like Humpty Dumpty and the meaning of words. And he cannot be corrected, because he has categorically eschewed reason. He is a victim of ideology.
Therefore, argument or debate with Consensus Enforcers is a lost cause. It is a waste of time, except to remind ourselves of the mentality of such people. Debate must be with people who believe that debate and reason count for something. People, that is to say, who are worth having conversations with. Your energies are much better spent on taking the arguments against green ideology out into the mainstream.
