Hakeem Jeffries says, "The American people don't want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf." ENFORCING THE RULE OF LAW is not "getting even." It's the bare minimum!!

I cant stress that I never once heard anything about unity at any door I knocked in the multiple swing districts I canvassed in and all of which turned blue.
Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face. These results were only possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country — including in areas once considered long shots. They came from different backgrounds and represented a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy. While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future.

There is no “getting even” for the many people lost or murdered in ICE custody. There is no “getting even” with the systematic dismantling of women’s rights that has led to record increases in maternal mortality. There is no “getting even” for entering a war we didn’t ask for or approve. There is no “getting even” with global loss of life from demolishing USAID. The list goes on. Getting even and forcing accountability are two different things.
Hakeem Jeffries on Morning Joe: The American people don't want us to get even. They want us to get things done on their behalf because life is way too expensive. We ran on affordability, we won on affordability, and now it's our job to govern on affordability.

Sorry, but as a Black man who understands our responsibility as descendants of enslaved Africans in America I must RIGOROUSLY and FEVERISHLY OPPOSE a Black Zionist being elevated to Speaker of the House We simply cannot afford a Black person with that much power supporting Genocide directly or tacitly the SOUL OF BLACK FOLK is on the line and we are being weighed against the Arc of the Moral Universe. No on Hakeem Jeffries.

Tim and I spoke about affordability and ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS last week at Columbia. Love the idea of translating my economics of essentials into an Affordability Bill! Watch the full conversation at the link below. Thanks to @linamkhan for hosting!
What Democrats should do: draft and pass an Affordability Bill, focused on the "economics of essentials" (healthcare, housing, food, etc). Dare the President to veto it; if he does, dare Republicans to make it veto-proof. If it passes, so much the better; if it doesn't, it becomes a Blueprint for 2028. The substance of the bill should be pricing reforms (eg, banning of 21st-century price-fixing) and structural reforms (eg changes to merger review for essential industries; private-equity accountability). Core stuff that the majority of Americans agree on.

Dems are crowing but what have they done to deserve this in the last two years? Did I want this? Yeah of course. But I’m bracing myself for the big nothing.

Fuck off, #BrokenTimes. It insists on bothsidesing not a mutual meltdown but one that's entirely the odious Stevens', turning it into "a major fissure coursing through the Democratic Party" and "an embarrassing and potentially costly drama." No, fools, it's unifying Democrats.

No, it shows we need new parties
Haley Stevens’ betrayal today shows us it’s not that progressive Democrats, or even democratic socialists, need their own party. It’s that politicians like Haley Stevens always had more in common with Republicans like Mike Rogers and Donald Trump than with the Democratic base. And now she admits it. That’s why it’s so important to run democratic primaries. It’s not enough to send Democrats to Washington, we have to send Democrats who are fighting for the things working class voters want!

THREAD. Every single time you see Democrats, Jacobin Magazine, Malcolm Gladwell, or a non-profit organization telling you to support existing levels of policing and police budgets, understand this is what they want you to support:

Nuri Bilge Ceylan remains the world's greatest living filmmaker. "Once Upon A Time In Anatolia" was sweeping, mythological, and imagistic, whereas "Winter Sleep" is intimate and Chekhovian. Not ONE sympathetic character, yet Ceylan still manages to make an 180+ min runtime feel crisp: automachination.com/analysis…

"We then excuse our dissonance and our want to like Obama by kidding ourselves that he has made good on at least some of his promises. But has he? Take healthcare, his prized accomplishment, for example: it's a watered-down reform that kowtows to the interests of healthcare lobbies before it provides meaningful, secure access to healthcare for our society's most desperate." - Abdul El-Sayed 2012

You live at the center of a global military empire with ~1,000 overseas bases, strangling countries w/ sanctions, coups & war for refusing to submit to US dictates. Thinking Americans shouldn’t care about elections abroad is brain dead imperial chauvinism
Earnest take: I think it’s probably not healthy for the practice of democratic self-government that so many people have developed strong rooting interests in elections in countries they don’t live in.

Malcolm Gladwell is a fucking fraud and has made a career and millions just spewing bullshit that falls apart if you have a working brain or decide to lightly fact-check him. A phenomenally stupid man and grifter.
I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/…
