It does look superb but it’s not a jambon beurre, and we know that cos we can plainly see the cheese and the cornichons. I’ve just finished my dinner and it made me hungry again though. I can practically taste this sammidge through the screen. 👌
The jambon-beurre—a classic Parisian sandwich of ham and butter on a baguette—is having a moment in New York. Recently, the sandwich has been cropping up at shops and boulangeries across the city. But the best jambon-beurre is also the newest, Helen Rosner writes. It can be found at Richaud Petite Bakery, a novel effort by the actor turned baker Richaud Valls. “The reason this sandwich has won my heart more than others in the city is the torpedo of bread they’re tucked into,” Rosner continues. “Which sighs and crackles, an entire universe of complexity and depth in its crumb.” Read more: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/qW…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is a jambon-fromage, as there's cheese in it. A jambon-beurre is just ham, butter and (optionally) some bits of cornichon on a half-baguette fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jambon-be…

My making it clear to my daughter a decade ago that she was not a boy & could never be a boy, & explaining why, was a key part of her desistance. It’s a parent’s duty to keep their kid grounded in reality. To claim that that can’t be done with love, or without damage, is crazy.
Criminalising parents who won't affirm - the first evidence session. Our panel argued that, despite @bphillipsonMP reassurance that the draft bill will not impinge on decisions about how to parent, it risks criminalising parents who do not affirm a child’s gender identity. The panel promoting the bill seemed to view a failure to affirm as a “conversion practice” that SHOULD be criminalised. sex-matters.org/posts/update…

I've watched the Tony Watt/chickens video about 50 times since Saturday to the point I keep catching myself singing it, and I swear I've only *just* noticed one of the Morton fans is dressed as batman 😅

Normally I’d just be chuffed to bits for him but the idea of a) an extra two games for him and b) the risk of injury gives me The Fear.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Josh McPake has been called up the Scotland squad for their UEFA Nations League matches against North Macedonia and Switzerland this month. Congratulations, Josh! 👏

Can’t decide if worst part was losing the game, standing in a Q with 1000 happy hibees @ Queen St station or coming down with some sort of cold & swelling glands while listening to them sing “who the fk is Claudio Braga” all the way home on the train while I tried to sleep. Grim.

This week just gets better and better.
Hearts could be without more than a quarter of their 23-man European squad. Club can't make any outfield changes/additions. There are 17 youth players on the B list, including Gilles and Stevenson, who have been on the bench for Euro games. Meanwhile, Thun produced a dramatic comeback to win 5-4 from 4-1 down. heartsstandard.co.uk/news/26…

The little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom. The transgender movement has convinced unhappy children that they may be "born in the wrong body" or that they can exist as neither male nor female. Now it wants to give these children the ability to set the police on their parents and send them to prison.
For the transactivists who've decided I abused my son, here are the sorts of reasons he said he'd tell the police on me: no to fire-eater at b'day party/£200 football boots/drinking vinegar; requests to pick up towel/put plate in sink/get dressed. He was a kid, arrest me. More /1

This is such an important point. This bill makes it dangerous for parents and siblings to try to keep in touch with a young person who has become estranged. The bill would allow no chance for reconciliation. It will break families @bphillipsonMP
And it’s not just at the initial stage. We’re 9 years down the line, estranged by medicalised daughter who insists her safety and wellbeing is at risk if we contact her. All we said was please don’t rush into anything permanent. This bill would allow no chance for reconciliation.

‘Gender affirmation’ and ‘transition’ are conversion practices for gay, lesbian and autistic youth. Trans is conversion practice.
The Conversion Practices bill “makes it a crime to say to your teenaged daughter: I want you to love your body, I want you to grow up to be a happy lesbian. I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE A MAN!” 💔 @Jebadoo2

If you don’t think the Conversion Practices Bill is relevant to you as a parent, you would be very wrong. Put a foot wrong in a normal conversation with your child or you say the ‘wrong’ thing on social media you face 5 years in jail & an unlimited fine. Authoritarian tyranny.
Brilliant questioning here from @NazShahBfd of Professor Ilias Trispiotis: she forces him to concede that - yes, ordinary parental conversations with their children will fall under the scope of this Bill and they will be criminalised

For those who are new to this topic, in this clip Helen Joyce is describing a scenario that would meet the criteria for criminal charges under law created by the proposed Conversion Practices Bill. Parents would face criminal prosecution for parenting.
“If my husband takes my phone away from me because he doesn’t want me contacting people, that’s coercive control. If I do that to my child, that maybe responsible parenting” Well said @HJoyceGender! #BinTheBill

Yes, I'm biased, but god Dennis Kavanagh, Helen Joyce & Dermot Kehoe are a breath of fresh air. The contrast between them and the 3 previous witnesses is really something. Straight-talking, practical, evidence-based. None of your "um this is abstract" fluff. #ConversionPractices

"It's a very high bar for prosecution" "Isn't it just a case of a teen insisting they're distressed?" "Well, yes..." I paraphrase, but you get the gist. Have these people met any teenagers? Especially teenagers with autism or existing MH issues? #ConversionPractices

No no no don't you invoke the gravity of (& hide behind) the traumatic issue of FGM when MP asked you to explain if a parent refusing to affirm gender identity of their child would be prosecutable. This Trispiotis chap is struggling to answer any Q clearly. #ConversionPractices

And Derek McInnes got off lightly. Probably cos of his effective PR yesterday and the day before. He’s always been good at that. Dammit. Devlin got off *very* lightly - but he’ll keep.
