Trying something different this year. New #Hampshiredown ram arriving soon, ready to go on with the ewes in November. Coincidentally, the Hampshire is the sheep in my Profile picture.

Trevor (yes, I know) calved on Tues. She's 17 yrs old. This is either her 13th or 14th calf and she's a bit "calf proud" at the moment. The calf is a Shorthorn x heifer by Iskan, our 11 yr old Shorthorn bull. With genes like that she'll hopefully have a long, healthy life 😊

Missing/stolen from Maisemore, Gloucestershire, but could be anywhere. Paddy is a giant breed dog and he will be in pain without his regular medication.

2 flies were having a scrap. One fell in my tea. Fortunately it wasn't hot so I fished him out & put him on a piece of paper to dry. He spent the next 10 mins washing his face & unsticking his wings & back legs. Then he flew off. I finished my tea. Never hurts to save a life.

First batch of blackberry vinegar nearly ready. Just need to find a way to use up the vinegary blackberries. They're quite pippy now they've been soaked so if it's chutney, it'll need bulking out a lot with other things. It won't get wasted either way.

It's Rowan berry jelly time. A bumper crop on Mum's trees this year. This is just what I could reach from the ground in 10 minutes.

So lovely to have "our" Little owls back after a break of nearly 10 years. They are in decline nationally, and although they're not a native species, having been introduced in the late 1800's, they're much loved. You can just see him/her perched on the corner of the roof.

Finally cutting our species rich hay today, a month later than other farms so the flowers could set seed and the critically endangered Corn Buntings could raise their 2nd brood of the season! #farm24

Love violas. Love Emma's posts 😊
I had 3-4 weeks off Twitter with autistic burnout recently & my engagement is right down (also due to standing up to a vile group of trolls on here-they reported me lots, restricting my reach). If you see this photo it would be so ace if you could RT it or drop me a quick hello if you have a moment, both of which help an account get back on track. I also hope these little violas ping some floral dopamine in your meat computer & give you a small lift 🌿

This is one of our local farms. When farmers are gone, who helps ? When a field catches fire, something remarkable happens in the countryside. Before the last fire engine has even arrived, neighbouring farmers are already on their way. Tractors leave fields half-finished. Cultivators and ploughs are used to cut firebreaks. Water bowsers appear from nowhere. Everyone has one aim: stop the fire, protect wildlife, save crops and, above all, keep people’s homes safe. Look at these photographs. See just how close the flames came to those houses. I’ve often said that farmers are Britain’s fourth emergency service, and days like this prove it. They don’t ask who owns the field or whose problem it is. They simply turn up. It’s time this Government @UKLabour started recognising farmers for what they really are: not just food producers, but environmental custodians, protectors of our countryside and champions of our rural communities. The next time you see a farmer driving towards a fire instead of away from it, remember that’s what real public service looks like. @FarmersWeekly @FarmersGuardian @BBCBreakfast @SkyNews @loosecollie @GBNEWS @MartinDaubney @agricontract @JeremyClarkson

It's starting to look like the Serengeti from the bedroom window, and still no appreciable rain forecast for the foreseeable.

Meet our new pedigree Hereford bull, Chieftain. He's 16 months old and still has a lot of growing to do, so we're only putting him in with a very small group of cows and heifers for the moment.

Meet Chieftain, our new pedigree Hereford bull. He's arriving in 2 weeks time and will join our other Hereford bull, Pioneer, who came from the same breeder. Pioneer is 8 now and we've retired our Shorthorn bull Iskan as he's 11, so we need another young bull coming on behind.
