‼️ BREAKING: The Netherlands Forensic Institute has found a way to crack Google Pixel phones, though it did not say which OS the phone was running. There is a high chance they were using an OS like GrapheneOS, since all three suspects were using Google Pixel phones. Or perhaps they are just fans of Google products.
They have already cracked one of the suspects' phones — that of Swedish national Veronica K., a suspect in a triple murder — prosecutors told the high-security court at Schiphol today.
The phone held images of weapons and stacks of cash, plus chats investigators can now read. The Forensic Institute expects to crack the two co-defendants' Pixels too.

Wassim Nasr told Graeme Wood (The Atlantic) that JNIM has learned from al-Sharaa that it is “possible to get out of the jihadi sphere and be accepted by the international community.” He said the group is thinking about trying to transform along similar lines. The main impediment to such a move is the Islamic State West Africa Province. Before he could moderate, al-Sharaa had to wait for ISIS to be crushed in Syria, so he would not face defections. JNIM is still fighting ISIS, and Nasr said it isn’t yet in a position to explore moderation.

It is difficult to tell the difference between an al-Qaeda that is stealthily rebuilding and an al-Qaeda that is dead. A cat that is stalking its prey is exactly as silent as a cat that was hit over the head two weeks ago with a shovel. Some of those who study and analyze jihadism sound exasperated by the task of convincing people that al‑Qaeda core is the second type of cat. Cole Bunzel, a historian at the University of Texas at Austin, said he considers the notion that al‑Qaeda is a “secret behemoth,” gathering strength under the guise of weakness, “mostly nonsense.”
“I see pretty much no evidence that al‑Qaeda has any competence or capability as a centralized organization,” Bunzel said. The various affiliates call themselves al-Qaeda, but they appear to take no meaningful guidance from anyone in al‑Qaeda core. He likened the core group to a “mostly defunct podcast,” a bunch of old guys who occasionally get together to put out a statement, but who have no power to do anything other than shout into a void.”

Previously, he worked as an assistant to the Russian military attaché in Hungary.
Leaks indicate that he lives in Moscow, and Brednev listed the GRU headquarters (76b Khoroshovskoye Shosse) as his address.
• Oleg Chapovalovski, 29-year-old Oleg Chapovalovski. He graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the Ministry of Defense’s Military University, which he also listed as his place of residence in Moscow.
• Roman Kharchenko, 42 years old.
His contact information is saved in his acquaintances’ phones as “Roma Kharchenko FSB Fokino Military,” “Kharchenko Roman Aleksandrovich FSB Fokino,” “Roman Alexan-chfsb,” and “FSB,” according to the leaks.

▪️По правую руку от Якуша на фото сидит 48-летний Иван Бреднев. Ранее он работал заместителем военного атташе России в Венгрии. Согласно утечкам, в Москве Бреднев указывал своим адресом адрес штаб-квартиры ГРУ (Хорошевское шоссе 76б).
▪️Справа от Бреднева на фото видно 29-летнего Олега Шаповаловского. Он окончил факультет иностранных языков Военного университета Минобороны, его же указывал местом своего проживания в Москве, свидетельствуют данные утечек.
▪️Еще правее на фото видно 42-летнего Романа Харченко. Его номер в телефонах знакомых записан как «Рома Харченко Фсб По Военным Фокино», «Харченко Роман Александрович Фсб Фокино», «Роман Алексан-чфсб» и «Фсб», свидетельствуют данные утечек.
▪️Ближе всего к Гоите на встрече сидел сам российский посол Громыко. Между ним и Харченко место занимал 32-летний сотрудник российского посольства Самир Мирзаханов. В 2019 году он работал пресс-атташе посольства России в Бенине, а его жена по состоянию на 2025 год была пресс-атташе российской дипмиссии в Конго.
Контекст. В Мали с выходных продолжается кризис, вызванный скоординированным наступлением повстанческих группировок на позиции правительственных сил и российского «Африканского корпуса».
▪️Россия стала основным союзником малийской хунты после устроенного военными осенью 2021 года госпереворота, после которого страну возглавил Гоита. ▪️К вечеру вторника ситуация в стране продолжала обостряться — по заявлениям повстанцев и военных блогов, малийские и российские военные продолжили оставлять населенные пункты, а анонимный высокопоставленный малийский чиновник заявил, что российские военные «предали» руководство страны.
