The near-summit fumaroles are a smelly reminder that #MtHood is indeed an active volcano! Active, but not too active… @USGSVolcanoes is keeping a close watch on any possible changes there.
PS. Thanks @simoncarn for assisting us in the field!
Cascade Range volcanoes at normal background levels of activity: usgs.gov/programs/VHP/volcan…. Field team near Crater Rock (#MtHood) to collect gas samples for lab. Portable multi-GAS measures gas composition (H2O = 97.6%, CO2 = 2.1%, H2S = 0.3%). Vent temp normal (90°C, 194°F).

Calling all citizen scientists. Did you or someone you know observe volcanic ash falling on the U.S. East Coast after the eruption of #MountStHelens on May 18, 1980? Do you have photos? Samples? Reply in comments - we need your stories and observations for science! @USGSVolcanoes

Looks like a fairly large event for #Karymsky (#Kamchatka), which produces frequent smaller explosions. @NASA's #Aqua/AIRS instrument measured ~0.01 Tg SO₂ in the #volcanic cloud at 15:50 UTC on Nov 3. @airesEO
