I often see a misapplication of the first principles approach.
Individuals come in, question misplaced assumptions, and thanks to advancements in automated code production, tend to miss the core idea that a product is a loss function.
In any complex human (or machine) endeavor, there are multiple competing objectives that cannot all be maximized simultaneously.
The great part about technology businesses is that the cost of experimentation keeps getting lower.
Continuously questioning the assumptions and getting a handful of them right, divides brilliant products from the ones that end up getting abandoned.
You never step into the same @X algorithm twice.
The algorithm is constantly learning from your interactions, your interests, and everyone else’s.
People change. The product changes. The world changes. The algorithm changes with them.
Thankfully, some beautiful math helps us get directionally aligned with all this that never stands still.
As I said, we’re very focused on creating better monetization opportunities on the platform.
Thank you 🙇♂️ .
We’re doubling down on video on 𝕏.
Today, we're piloting Video Kickstart Bonus, an invite-only program that rewards creators for posting their video content here.
A few things to know:
• Videos must be vertical, under 3 minutes, and content you’ve created yourself.
• Videos you’ve already shared on other platforms are eligible, as long as they don’t have watermarks.
• You must post at least 15 videos across 15 different days within the 30-day period of the campaign.
Invites are rolling out over the next few days, and enrollment closes October 30. Happy posting!!

Zuckerberg having to use X to thank Ternus because Apple doesn't use Threads is fascinating.
Muse Spark Open -- weights releasing today -- runs great on new Mac Studios thanks to work with @johnternus and Apple.
I take the 280 to avoid traffic and enterprise software ads. But every time I take the 101, I wonder: why are the companies buying billboards when their target audience is on X? 🤔
The other thing: unified billing across X, Grok & Cursor. Slowly rolling out worldwide today.
Unifying four companies is a unique engineering challenge so please be patient as the teams iron out the issues 🐛 🙇♂️

Today we’re laying off a large part of the Airtable team.
This is not a reflection of their work but a reflection of our deep belief that small teams ship more and better.
For Airtable, better is about to look like:
- A new Core team shipping your top requests monthly (already 30+ shipped in 3 weeks)
- Upgraded Omni, Airtable Canvas, a stronger MCP, and BYO agents, coming soon
- New Performance and Infra teams focusing on speeding up bases and increasing limits on records, fields, and syncs
To everyone leaving: thank you. If you’re hiring, these are excellent people and worth a call.
Yes. Brilliant idea from @allegrajacchia @dinkin_flickaa.
Please, no. Passkeys have reinvented an escape room from first principles.
Bringing public-key authentication to the masses is a great idea, but the real world is much messier. Cross-platform credential management, password managers, browser inconsistencies, account recovery and domain migrations all introduce edge cases.
For a major application like the one you’re reading this on, these edge cases affect millions of users. As we rewrote auth, I personally fixed 10+ of these last year (much to @nikitabier’s delight), and we ultimately introduced email/phone codes as complementary authentication methods.
Even in tightly integrated environments, things break. Try logging into a machine that doesn’t have your passkey. Your browser asks you to scan a QR code, which requires Bluetooth, but your phone’s Bluetooth isn’t working.
Unless you give users enough fallbacks, the final step in the authentication flow is apparently prayer.
One of the most interesting parts of building @X is getting immediate feedback from the users.
Huge thanks to everyone who takes the time to report issues, share feedback, and help us make X better for everyone.
My teams and I genuinely appreciate it. 🙇♂️
Love seeing @X’s front-line, hands-on culture catch on elsewhere. 🤭
Now live for a lot of users.
Great collab with @larsencc (his first project) and @milichab @shahmeernavid_. 🤝
Extremely useful to have Grok in, but also sad for @skunichi @santiagomed who are no longer the smartest people in our group chat.
because @BurnhamDC and his lawyers are competent, hard working, and most importantly, work closely with the engineers.
other companies can keep holding meetings about meetings. 📞
