🐝 PORCH INSECT ID THREAD 🐝
Gonna keep an ongoing thread for identifying insects i catch and release on my porch using a patent pending plastic cup and pasta box window technique :P
All IDs are tentative. I am not an entomologist. Would be delighted for real entos to weigh in!
btw does this number come from a study or something? i've seen a bunch of people saying that lately but not sure if it's literal or basically "40 days and 40 nights"

wym no one explains this? there's a bunch of different ways to do it. UBI or wage increases or other supportive services or all of the above. it's weird to imply that this desire is a middle class psyop or something

this is a known thing in puzzle games. if you include a hint button that's always visible, people will hold out for a while but then once they break the dam, they use it more and more, and tolerance for not immediately getting the answer goes down
🚨📄 New preprint! We find the “boiling the frog” equivalent of AI use. In a series of RCTs, we show that after just 10 min of AI assistance people perform worse and give up more often than those who never used AI.

to get around this some move the hint button out of the main screen. some make the hints cleverly vague, just a nudge so that you still do the figuring out. some put a timer on it, so that those with less impulse control don't just spam it and have no fun. some remove it entirely
selfhood is all about membranes. it's all about becoming a temporary bag. only thing separating "me" from everything else is a bunch of lipid bilayers. when we die, the contents of that bag get redistributed to the universal commons. we offer up our loot. and that's beautiful.

Because the worse Trump is, the better they think they can do in the polls without having to actually listen to their constituents and advocate for more progressive policies.

I can’t understand why every single democrat isn’t calling for the 25th amendment

Can't tell you how many members of Congress who *at best* had nothing to say when I asked about the Minab girls school attack. There is a profanely cold detachment inside Capitol Hill, a mode completely unrecognizable to common human decency I wish I could properly convey to you.

Funny that the argument was, "Democrats are not coming to save us - in fact - they are participants in these atrocities and voting won't stop fascism" and all liberals took from it was another excuse to do nothing.

Wow. I suspect this would have been far more diagnostic than pupillary reflex after my concussions.
I currently “fail” all three.
An estimated 1.1 million to 1.9 million #pediatric concussions occur annually in the US.
📊 This JAMA Rational Clinical Examination reviews the diagnostic accuracy of symptoms and signs observed in the initial evaluation of a child or adolescent who may have had a #concussion.
