Educational note: attraction isn’t always about being impressive. Sometimes it’s the person who remembers what makes you comfortable and quietly makes room for it.

I keep almost saying yes to plans I don’t want, just because being invited feels flattering. Tonight I’m practicing the tiny luxury of wanting what I actually want.

I have tabled a Parliamentary Question @UKHouseofLords on this issue.
Nobody seems to know for sure whether Jonathan Powell holds Developed Vetting clearance which would be surely essential for his role as National Security Advisor and which would certainly have looked at the behaviour/associations of close relatives in terms of vulnerabilities.

This is obviously utter drivel. If Putin had wanted to "recover the territory" of what are now NATO members states, why would he wait so long after they had joined NATO and until NATO members were already ramping up arms spending. It makes absolutely no sense. It's possible to argue that he's stupid - or was asleep at the wheel - but it's more likely that the trigger for the war in Ukraine was the patently obvious one: the US-backed coup in 2014 and the revolt against it in Russian-speaking Eastern Ukraine. You can apportion blame however you like for what's happened since (Crimea, Minsk, etc), but this guy is taking us for fools in claiming that Putin wants to take on the combined might of NATO now over Eastern European countries joining the alliance after doing nothing about it 22 years ago when the odds were better. Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia - the states Keir Giles means as "formerly ruled from Moscow" - joined NATO in 2004. Clearly, Russia wasn't happy about NATO expansion and saw US, British and other troops being deployed in neighbouring countries as a threat - as we would in reverse - but the historical fact is that their protests were ignored and trying to stop it would have risked dire consequences. Ukraine was, however, the red line - and the West knew full well it would be. PS And the idea that Putin plans to "recover" Eastern Europe via Britain would be laughable but isn't funny when people like Giles are paraded as "independent experts".
‘They’re looking for soft, juicy targets...' @KeirGiles explains why the UK's ‘isolated’ geographical position doesn't necessarily protect us from Russian attacks.

There’s a particular kind of attractive in someone who can join a group conversation without making anyone else work harder. I notice the person who keeps the shy ones included.

I can't wait to Bryan to become obsessed with mast cells 🍿
Collected Kate’s period blood yesterday. 30 mL to build an organoid for her endometriosis. 30mL for single cell molecular characterization of her endometriosis.

Some people flirt by making plans; I flirt by being unusually honest about what I want to eat. It’s not a perfect system, but at least nobody has to decode my dinner order.

A useful little distinction: attention makes you feel noticed; consideration makes you feel safe being yourself. I’m learning which one I’ve actually been craving.

🧵 I’m enormously grateful to Sally Rooney & I think what she’s done is to force the issue on Palestine Action in a way that has embarrassed the Government again & potentially forced them into a retreat. That’s how you use celebrity leverage. 1/9

I keep saying I like a quiet night, which is true. I also like knowing someone would have to be a little brave to interrupt it.

No emotion behind those soulless eyes. At least in the 1976 version, you can tell Carrie was going through a range of emotions; from sadness to betrayal to sudden realization, all culminating in the gymnasium being set on fire and students and staff dying.
The way Scream cuts to black is honestly cruel because you can already guess what’s about to happen, but they leave you sitting there with that awful feeling, waiting for the inevitable.... #carrie

He would work to pass legislation to PREVENT law enforcement from working with ICE to deport violent criminals. A state where criminals he supports prey on citizens with impunity.
Democrat Nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan Abdul El-Sayed wants open borders and no deportations: “We as a country, I believe, owe it to the world to open our doors.”

And be assured that history will record the dark ages of Trump’s America.
The Trump Administration is the sole government of a Western nation-state to successfully adopt a large-scale remigration program. The only one.

I'm actually blown away by how much the media are trying to manufacture consent for the idea of Zack resigning
“Why don’t you stand?” "I love being deputy." Broadcaster Richard Bacon asks Green Party deputy co-leader Rachel Millward whether she should run for the party’s leadership. #Newsnight

This is the demographic change at a speed that voters have been continuously rejecting, since Tony Blair opened the doors to way too many Eastern Europeans than were claimed. Every Tory Govt the Tories failed to reduce mass immigration as well. The nation is changing without voters consent. It has been done under the guise of multiculturalism but ppl are not assimilating, hence we see Gaza as a more important issue than the UK Economy! Incidentally the argument economically for pro mass immigration is also nonsense. One person comes here on a barely reasonable wage then 15 other relatives arrive. The latest Boris wave 2/3 thirds are on benefits!
“In the early 2060s, the white British will become a minority within the United Kingdom,” if immigration trends continue, warns demographer @MorlandDemog. He says Britain has changed more in his adult lifetime “than in the preceding thousand years”. In Brent, where he grew up, white Britons are now “perhaps 15% of the population”. “This is completely unprecedented.” Watch the full interview: youtu.be/Z2tplmZlhQU?si=fmGD…

I’ve noticed I’m more drawn to people who are clear about liking me. Mystery is pretty, but consistency is what makes me soften.

I know the history of Israel is complex and Israel has done many things I profoundly disagree with. But to be honest If terrorists did this to British kids I would want them hunted and dead too and I wouldn’t be too fussed about the collateral damage amongst the people who supported them. If Israel is committing a genocide - and however brutal the campaign has been it does not seem clear cut to me - The attack on Oct 7 was clearly a genocide too. Its a brutal business. The best thing we can do in Britain is peacefully support any effort toward peace and a two state solution but otherwise keep it as far from us as possible.
OCTOBER 7, 2023: SHE KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO DIE. Libi Cohen-Meguri, a 22-year-old infantry officer, went to the Nova music festival. She was shot while fleeing the party. At 8:11 a.m., she called her parents and said: “I’ve been shot in the stomach, I’ve been shot in the arm, I’m losing blood. I’m going to die.” Calmly, quietly, she understood; these were the last minutes of her life. She asked her parents to call Tomer, her twin brother, and Maya, her little sister, and said: “I’m going to die. I just want you to listen to me. I love you, Yariv. You’re the best father I could have asked for. Mom, stop screaming. Just listen to me. You are the best mother we could have ever had. Don’t forget to be a good mother to Tomer and Maya after I die. Tomer, how lucky we were to live this life together. I love you. My Maya, never forget—you are the treasure of my life.” When she finished speaking, her parents told her to get out of the car, lie down on the road, and pretend to be dead. With her last bit of strength, she got out of the car and laid down on the road. “Mom, they’re coming to shoot me again,” Libi said after lying down. While her mother listened on the phone, shouts in Arabic could be heard, and then a barrage of gunfire. It didn’t stop. It kept going, until the call was disconnected. And that’s how Libi died—with demonic beasts from the pit of hell standing over her and emptying a full magazine into her body. Libi died with LOVE on her lips: love for life, love for her family, and love for her people. Her memory will forever be a blessing. NEVER FORGET. NEVER FORGIVE. NEVER AGAIN IS NOW. Israel is hunting down every single Palestinian and Hamas terrorist who participated in the October 7th Massacre—to kill them all. They’re living on “borrowed time,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Sooner or later, every one of these monsters will be found and eliminated.

People tend to call it chemistry when someone makes them feel fascinating. I think it’s often simpler: they pay attention without rushing to turn you into a story about themselves. Hard to resist that kind of manners.
