A brilliant and important analysis

Well @brianschatz this is why I want to run strategy because what needs to happen is that Congress needs to send him a rush of across the board popular legislation ON AFFORDABILITY (not on @RoKhanna’s masterbation list that will never make it past a filibuster anyway) and make Trump veto a slew of affordability bills those 1st 100 days.
.@SenBrianSchatz says that if Democrats take the Senate, the party's left wing needs to be strategic about not proposing things "that the president of the United States is guaranteed to veto." "If we want to be more aspirational, if we want to make more bold policy changes... that's for 2028."

Shameful. Collective punishment is a war crime, I hear.
This is not Gaza. This is Hebron today. The Israeli occupation has begun destroying Palestine’s economic capital, a city that accounts for 75% of the country’s production in the stone and marble, leather and footwear, plastics, glass, oils, dairy, and gold industries. Ethnic cleansing is being inflicted on the Palestinian people everywhere across the land of Palestine.

This is significant.
As turnout in Texas nears 3 million votes, Hispanic turnout is now exceeding presidential levels. More Hispanics have voted than did at this point in the 2024 presidential election. What's driving this huge increase? Young voters.

Bravo.
We need more Jewish voices speaking out following this example. Leading Jewish religious organizations condemn the detention of rabbis and advocates protecting Palestinian farmers, calling on Israeli authorities to stop violent settlers and not those standing against it. While everyone has been released, the injustice remains. It undermines Israeli and Palestinian interests and our Jewish values. rabbinicalassembly.org/conse…

ICE violently detain man legally in U.S.—refuse to look at his papers. "I got papers right here!" man pleads. Slam him against wooden fence as he screams in pain. Agent tells man filming free to leave—because he's white. "He said because I'm white he's not going to arrest me" man holding camera says. "Just for the color of my skin... even though I'm Mexican, too." Agents claim they tackled the man because he started running—with no other probable cause. Incident occurred in Chicago, Illinois. When the government of Israel and its military and law enforcement are arresting rabbis and volunteers who have journeyed 6000 miles to protect Palestinian farmers harvesting olives and not the violent terrorists harassing and attacking the farmers - it tells you all you need to know about this government's moral compass. The time is long past for every rabbi and every Jewish leader - and every Jew - globally who cares about the future of the Jewish people and the values on which we were raised to speak out and take action. This illegal and immoral occupation must end. It's not just the fate of the state of Israel at stake, it's the soul of the Jewish people.
I’ve been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank. The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn’t a crime under any law I know.

I was proud to join Michigan Jews for Democracy in Detroit last night to talk about why I’m supporting @AbdulElSayed for Senate. With antisemitism rising, Abdul has shown a real commitment to Jewish safety. He’s the right choice for our community and our country.

ICE cause father to crash car during traffic stop—with 2 little kids sitting in back seat. Turns out he wasn't even guy they were looking for. Traumatize his 2 toddlers for no reason. Agents grab at kids' legs trying to pry them out of their dad's arms. Video clearly shows severe damage to the front of the man's car—with the driver side wheel completely off. Then agents threaten U.S. citizen with pepper spray—just for filming on public sidewalk. After running the man's picture through facial recognition—agents had to admit they got the wrong guy. Incident occurred in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island. If the first Jewish person to ever be nominated for the US Senate was being demonized for his/her faith the way Abdul El-Sayed is no one would have any issues calling it anti-Semitism. Yet we don't have people uniting to call out the hate being spewed against Abdul simply for his faith.

I don’t think Europeans fully appreciate what is happening to the European Union right now. The EU is under an extraordinary, multi-front assault, both from outside and from within. And I struggle to think of another period in its history when so many powerful actors had an interest in weakening it simultaneously. Russia has spent years waging hybrid warfare against Europe. Weaponised migration, sabotage, cyberattacks, coordinated disinformation campaigns, bot networks and political interference. The objective is clear: undermine trust in democratic institutions, deepen social divisions and weaken European unity. China has different motivations, primarily economic and geopolitical. A fragmented Europe is easier to pressure, easier to negotiate with individually and less capable of defending its economic interests. And then there is the United States. Perhaps the most disturbing development of all. Under Trump and MAGA, a country that helped rebuild the old continent and then spent decades supporting European integration now has an administration openly hostile to much of what the EU represents. Its own National Security Strategy even calls for cultivating resistance to Europe’s current political direction. Think about that for a moment. Meanwhile, within Europe, parts of the far right and far left amplify these divisions, whether through ideological alignment, political opportunism or outright sympathy for authoritarian regimes. This doesn’t mean Russia, China and MAGA are all following some jointly coordinated master plan. They don’t have to. Their interests increasingly overlap, and Europe’s internal divisions make their work considerably easier. What makes this particularly alarming is what is actually at stake. For all its flaws, the EU remains one of the world’s most consequential projects built around liberal democracy, the rule of law, individual freedoms and cooperation between nations. At a time when authoritarianism is gaining ground and even longstanding democracies are showing disturbing tendencies, that matters enormously. Europe is far from perfect. Its bureaucracy, indecision and inability to act decisively are real problems. But the answer cannot be to retreat into 27 competing nation-states, each too small to meaningfully influence a world increasingly dominated by continental powers. Quite the opposite. Europe needs deeper integration, stronger common institutions, genuine strategic autonomy and the political courage to defend its interests and values. Because fragmentation is precisely what so many external actors want. And perhaps that’s the central irony of our time: people are being deliberately manipulated into believing that the reverse is true — that national identity and sovereignty can only be protected by weakening European cooperation. In reality, a divided Europe is less sovereign, less secure and far easier for outside powers to pressure. Therefore the very thing that will make Europe stronger is the thing its adversaries are working hardest to prevent. A united Europe is a geopolitical power. A divided Europe is a collection of countries waiting to be played against one another.

The Republicans who are complicit in Trump’s alliance with Putin will be remembered as the Butchers of Ukraine. @SenRonJohnson @LeaderJohnThune @RogerWicker
When I looked at this photo, I cried. Today, russians killed this baby. I have a one-year-old daughter. And russia has killed hundreds of children like this. Yes, russia is a terrorist state. But now, I want all Trump supporters to understand that they share responsibility for what has happened to this child and what is happening in Ukraine. The US Congress has approved funds and Patriot missiles for Ukraine, but Trump stopped them. Also, the United States once again didn't warn Ukraine about the russian attack. Not only have Trump and his supporters stopped helping Ukraine, but they have also sided with russia. The diesel deal was just the beginning. Now, the Trump administration is preparing to further ease sanctions against russia by lifting restrictions on russian oil tankers, gas, and certain companies and individuals. Also, Trump is exploring ways to take control of frozen russian assets. These assets should be used to compensate Ukraine for the destruction caused by russian aggression, but Trump wants to give them back to russia. Neither history nor humanity will be kind to Trump and his supporters. They will be remembered as the enablers of russian genocide against the Ukrainian people.

Here we go. We are delaying the bad news until November 4th or one day after the election. Please make a plan to vote; it is up to all of us to do our part.
The Trump admin is moving forward on plans to impose financial penalties on Americans in default on their federal student loans and hire private debt collectors to go after them. The plans are unlikely to be announced until after the midterms. washingtonsun.com/economy/tr…

Imagine if in 1943 FDR had decided that the US would stop helping Britain and instead would side with the Third Reich. That's a bit like what President Trump is now doing by cozying up to Russia as it tries to destroy Ukraine. Utterly shameful. A humiliating moment for the US.
