Now that would be a model for South Africa
This is so intelligent, I want to cry: The 140 seats won by the student opposition against Serbia's nationalist government party will be taken up not by students, but by academics, professors & public figures from pre-chosen pool of 250 experts, selected by student plenums.

Summer is almost here and Cape Town beaches are waiting for you. None of the sunbed-packed expensive places of the Med. Just real sea and real sand as far as you can swim and walk. insideguide.co.za/cape-town/…

Navi Pillay, a great Nobel winner for today. A human rights defender. And a South African woman of colour. In 2014, I asked how her experience struggling against apartheid informed her work. She said she learned to “be persistent & be totally positive that you will win one day.”

Nobody wants a city on Mars. Nobody wants AI in every app. Nobody wants a robot butler. Nobody wants data centers everywhere. Nobody wants flying cars or humanoid robots. We want clean water, we want bees to survive, and we want a habitable planet.

A few days ago, I received a message from a school in Jabalia. Calling it a “school” almost feels strange. It was established during the war, in an area almost completely destroyed. About ten tents stand behind a metal fence, where more than 1,200 children of different ages are trying to continue their education. I know this school well. I previously organized an activity there for more than 100 children who had lost one or both of their parents. This time, they contacted me for something much simpler: School supplies. Parents are registering their children while telling teachers they cannot afford notebooks, pens, school bags, or other basic supplies. I once heard a father say: “We have nothing left to give our children except education. Maybe it is the only thing that can save them from the misery and injustice they are growing up in.” And perhaps he is right. Their homes can no longer protect them. Their parents have little left to give. Three years of their childhood have already been consumed by war. Yet there is still a child sitting inside a tent, opening a notebook and believing there might be another life beyond all of this. So I decided to launch a campaign to provide school supplies for these children. I personally take responsibility for every dollar donated. I will make sure it reaches the children and publish exactly how the money is spent and what is purchased. You can find the campaign details and donation link in my bio. If you cannot donate, please share it. 🙏🏻 We may not be able to give these children back the years the war stole from them. But perhaps we can put a notebook in their hands and give them somewhere to begin again !! #GiveHope #SurvivalTestimony

Gloria Steinem will go down in history as one of the most important activists of all time, leading a movement for the equality of half the world: its women. She lived a long and passionate life dedicated to this vital and basic cause. She did it with intellectual precision, emotional awareness, humour and beauty. May she rest in peace and may the cause thrive.

White-owned and controlled brands, in particular, need to understand that Black South African history is not a box of culturally resonant props from which you can select whatever makes your campaign look more profound.
