“Excuse” vs. “Reason” just boils down to whether they really do want an explanation, or just an apology. If they’re angry, distraught, or otherwise emotional, they probably just want an apology; only if they’re inquisitive and emotionally controlled do they want an explanation.
Idk why people think everything is an excuse instead of just a reason. "Sorry, I don't know why I said that, I'm tired." "Being tired isn't an excuse!" "Sorry for being late, I was stuck in traffic." "Traffic isn't an excuse!" I fear it is, though?? Am I too autistic for this?

Exception to this: If they wouldn’t consider your reasons to be valid, then even a calmly inquisitive allistic person will likely consider an explanation to be you “making excuses.” You have to keep their biases in mind, as well as their emotional state.

caulipower frozen pizzas and chicken tenders have saved me from hitting the doordash button many times. you gotta keep some healthyish treat food on hand so you don’t spend $40 on bullshit
before you hit that doordash button i implore you to try a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Sometimes you just need a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

Americans are smuggling Chinese cancer medications in their suitcase. 26 boxes of Zeggrovy will cost you $10k in China. AstraZeneca licensed it from the. Chinese company and is projected to sell it around $200k for the 26 boxes. We don’t have to live like this.
In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

VideoLAN services are back after numerous upgrades, after all the PHP, Gitlab, Kernel and other huge security issues of the week. Today is sysadmin appreciation day :) (Reminder: people maintaining our infra are volunteers, like all of us)

go to each other's homes. this is 75% of hanging out. watch the simpsons seasons 3-7. play a board game. make some cheap food. talk, gossip, bring your craft project over or your sketchbook. watch a movie together. go on a walk. make prank calls. make popcorn for christ's sake.
We CANNOT even afford hobbies. We CANNOT afford to go out with friends. We CANNOT afford to exist anywhere outside our homes. They then call it a mental health crisis. It's not. It's an affordability crisis.

“Forgive” is used in two very different ways: 1. “Pretend the wrongdoing never occurred” 2. “Stop going out of your way to punish the person” Real accountability = the person is owed forgiveness in sense #2; abuse culture will tell you a lip service apology = they’re owed #1.
I don’t think “no one is owed forgiveness” and “people are capable of change” are mutually exclusive statements

Very disingenuous when people act like “Stop going out of your way to punish that person who’s already done everything they reasonably can to make up for what they did wrong” is the same thing as “You’re obligated to reconnect socially with that person and forget what happened”

Seeing some men act like they didn’t have a misogynistic phase that’s been forgiven, or are in fact still misogynistic with impunity to this DAY! Running around calling women “bitches” & “hoes,” enforcing double standards, tolerating or even supporting antichoicers & TERFs… 😬

It’s pretty obvious who’s just performing social justice as an excuse to lash out at convenient targets, once you pay attention to the inconsistencies in their behavior

with 12 days until the midterm elections, the entire republican party has coalesced around attacking a woman for having been raped by her stepfather when she was twelve
Trump: "Vivek Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Amy Acton, who is running for Governor of Ohio, is a liar, and much worse. The Press, in a concerted and well coordinated attack, is trying to get Vivek Ramaswamy to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about a daughter in that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving in Office"
