Zimbabwe had the most expensive data in this 2025 African comparison, with 1GB costing US$5.10. That’s significantly higher than Botswana(US$1.74) South Africa(US$1.29) and Zambia(US$0.57) That is a serious barrier to digital inclusion, education, entrepreneurship and innovation

$300K is enough to build such a school in Zimbabwe. If you are in power for 10 years, each year you can set aside $18 million for a school in each of the 60 rural districts. In 10 yrs you would have built 600 schools. Enough to cover our deficit and more!

🚨AFRICA WATCH🚨 @Blevava writes that liberation history earns a place in the books, not a lifetime mandate. As South Africa votes this week, the ANC bargains after losing its majority. Zimbabwe's ZANU-PF rewrote the rules to keep Mnangagwa in power. 🔗vanguardafrica.com/africawat…

It is our mandate to ensure Food Security Everywhere Everyday. As Zimbabweans, we believe we must go beyond food security alone we must achieve food sovereignty. We must be able to produce our own food in sufficient quantities so that no one goes hungry. While some regions may face inadequate supplies, our belief is that every household must be empowered to produce enough for itself. #FoodSecurityEverywhereEveryday

The Zodwa Mnkandla Foundation has officially opened a 60-seater science laboratory at Sojini High School in Mbembesi, deep in rural Matabeleland North. The foundation has plans to launch more STEM labs. It is very rare to come across a mbinga that channels "philantropy" to the appropriate areas of need 👏 📸 LEC Biotech

Tanzania and Angola have agreed to link the Indian and Atlantic Oceans by rail, connecting the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) to Angola’s Benguela Railway through Zambia and the DRC. — The project will connect Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam port with Angola’s Lobito port, creating a trans-African transport corridor. — China signed a USD 1.4B agreement in 2025 to modernise TAZARA, while the US and EU are backing the Lobito Corridor. — Angola has also invited Tanzania to invest in its Lobito oil refinery project, with Tanzania’s state energy firm assessing the proposal. “We underestimated Zimbabwe…” At a Zim-India business summit in Harare, Varun Zim CEO Vijay Kumar Bahl says his company’s growth in Zimbabwe has been faster than expected. Varun entered Zim in 2018, has expanded its Pepsi bottling lines, diversified into snacks, and now plans to buy 48.79% of Dairibord. [🎥 @fridaydrinks_]
From competing in the fizzy drinks market, Varun Beverages Zimbabwe plans to play in a new sector in 2025: dairy and juice. The company entered Zim in 2018, producing 12m bottles per month. It’s now adding new lines that expand monthly capacity to 100m bottles of water and soft drinks. Varun is also building a new factory to make PepsiCo snacks. It estimates the snacks market in Zim to be worth US$177m

The number of cars in Zimbabwe is growing, but infrastructure isn’t keeping up. ZINARA CEO Nkosinathi Ncube told the road authority’s AGM: “In 2024, we were issuing an average 5,000 new licences per month. That figure has doubled. This speaks volumes on infrastructure. At this rate, we need ro expand public transport…”

The idea is good. UPI is the most successful instant payments system in the world, and a single QR code would help small traders who cannot afford several POS machines. But technology is not our main problem. ZIPIT already allows instant bank transfers. Payments are expensive because of the 2% transfer tax, high bank charges and currency instability. UPI is cheap in India because the government ordered zero fees. New pipes will not fix a policy problem. Governor Mushayavanhu also refuses to guarantee lower charges, the deal must be concluded by 31 October, and we have not been told what it will cost or who will control our transaction data. The real test is whether a vendor in Mbare will pay less to receive money than she pays today? Until we get that answer, this is a promising idea without the details that matter. Since January the rate on ZiG transactions has been 1.5%, while payments made in foreign currency still attract the 2% levy. It is basically a revenue stream for the state. That is why many folks prefer cash transactions to avoid charges. The informal sector will remain formal industry's biggest competitor and threat as the article says because it trades in cash. Formal businesses pay the Intermediated Money Transfer Tax (IMTT) of 2% on US dollar transactions and 1.5% on ZiG transactions, as well as bank charges, and these costs are passed on to customers through higher prices. The informal trader pays none of these charges, so he can undercut the formal sector, and people naturally go where goods are cheaper. If the proposed idea doesn’t resolve this, then it is a merry go round fixing very little!

What did Zimbabweans do to deserve these two? They're in competition to provoke the battered citizenry. It's one thing after the other. Will they also issue abatement orders for dilapidated government buildings, hospitals & police stations & roads & other public infrastructure?
