Honored to present our @ASTRO_org #ASTRO2026 Quick Pitch on agentic AI across 14 radiation oncology disease sites. Takeaway: AI shows promise, but physician oversight matters. Grateful to @theabzlab, @troyteo & our @NUFeinbergMed + @NorthwesternEng team. #RadOnc

In 1963, Dr Hardy reported the first human lung transplant in JAMA—in a patient with lung cancer doi.org/10.1001/jama.1963.63…. After decades of concern such as outlined in NEJM doi.org/10.1056/NEJM19990408…, cancers emerged as a contraindication for lung transplant. Our @JAMA_current paper revisits this jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…. With modern staging, modified surgical technique, contemporary multidisciplinary case, we can provide hope for patients with Stage IV medically refractory cancers limited to the lungs.

What an outstanding program! I learned so much about leadership and made some great new friends along the way. Thank you for investing in me @NeuroOnc and thank you to NM Rad Onc @theabzlab @NUFeinbergMed @LurieCancer for supporting me!
Join us in celebrating our SNO Future Leaders Program, which was developed to train young investigators to become leaders in brain tumor research, advance in their own academic departments and to lay the groundwork for future leadership. #SNO2025 #WFNOS

We’re thrilled to share new research led by Dr. Shuhua (Steve) Zheng, one of our outstanding trainees in Radiation Oncology at Northwestern University, that may shift how we think about preoperative decision-making in pancreatic cancer. In this study, Dr. Zheng and team developed PanScore—a deep learning model trained on genomic features to predict occult liver metastases in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Using over 4,000 cases across independent cohorts, PanScore stratifies patients into biologically distinct risk groups. By integrating common mutations and CNVs (including KRAS, TP53, CDKN2A, and SMAD4), this tool can flag patients unlikely to benefit from surgery alone, potentially guiding more personalized neoadjuvant strategies. This work exemplifies the intersection of machine learning, translational genomics, and clinical oncology—and we couldn’t be prouder of Dr. Zheng’s vision and execution. Full article: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Let’s reimagine PDAC risk stratification, one algorithm at a time. #PancreaticCancer #AIinMedicine #RadiationOncology #DeepLearning #Genomics #PrecisionOncology #MentorshipMatters #NorthwesternMedicine

It's out! Using deep learning, we addressed one of radiation oncology’s toughest challenges: accurate and automated tumor delineation. Our model segments lung tumors in motion with near-expert accuracy—scalable, reproducible, and ready for the clinic. rdcu.be/et5U0

Far more common than either of these outcomes is that you get a string of Nature papers, launch of field, attract $$$$$ of funding, found a startup, IPO, retire to Carmel and everyone only figures out it was all bullshit when Elizabeth Bik notices duplicated bands in the original papers.
If you do something bizarre in science or medicine it goes one of two ways A) you disgrace yourself, waste your time on nonsense, ruining your career B) You change the world for discovering something truly amazing Which way will go for for the "ivermectin for cancer" people?

What is a proton made of? Early scattering experiments probing the substructure of the proton found an interesting result. Instead of being made just from point-like particles (quarks), there seemed to be more going on inside the proton A🧵1/6
