Great advice except the phone is required for multi-factor-authentication to login to work things #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth
Habits from the habits guy. “Habits that have a high rate of return in life: – sleeping 8+ hours each day – lifting weights 3x week – going for a walk each day – saving at least 10 percent of your income – reading every day – drinking more water and less of everything else – leaving your phone in another room while you work” - James Clear

Google says your Gmail, Drive, and Photos data could influence the ads you see. The catch? This can happen when you opt to share that data with AI-powered Search features. Google's updated privacy policy spells out the trade-off. Here's what you need to know: thehackernews.com/2026/10/go…

I asked 30 Japanese 12-year-olds one question. "What do you think of when you hear 'America'?" (My nephew's teacher let me visit his class. I was not prepared.) "Hamburgers the size of my head." "Everything is big. Even the milk." "Cowboys." Then a boy asked me, "Do cowboys still exist?" I said yes. The whole class cheered. "They went to the moon." I told them only Americans have ever walked on it. The room went completely silent. Respect. "The best baseball in the world. Even Ohtani had to go there." "Superheroes. They all live in New York." Then a quiet girl in the back raised her hand. "My grandma says when the tsunami came, American soldiers came to help her town. She still has a photo with them on her fridge." Nobody said anything for a while. Then the teacher asked, "Who wants to go to America someday?" Every hand went up. Including the teacher's.

70% of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up. He rules. theatlantic.com/technology/2…

A casino got hacked through a fish tank. It has sensors. automated feeding, temperature control, remote monitoring. connected to the internet. isolated on its own VPN. segregated from everything else. Hackers still found it anyway, compromised it, pivoted to the main network. started pulling data. nobody monitors fish tank outbound traffic, why would they it's a fish tank. Darktrace caught it, anomalous transfers to an external destination nobody in the building had ever talked to. the casino had done everything right. separate network. isolated device. proper segmentation. Still didn't matter. The fish tank was still online, still running software, still had an attack surface. Every device you connect is a door you didn't know you opened.
Hackers stole 10GB of data from a casino… through a FISH TANK. Not a computer. Not a phone. A FISH TANK. The funny part is you probably have something in your home with the same weakness.

Wild story from @briankrebs: 1) Dubrovsky, the arrested ransomware negotiator, knew ShinyHunters stole FBI data but never told FBI; 2) an exec from another large US negotiating firm played an active role operating ShinyHunters' victim extortion website krebsonsecurity.com/2026/10/…

New: The FBI believes an exec at a prestigious U.S. consulting firm (1,000+ associates) helped run Shinywire, the ShinyHunters site used to extort nearly 100 victims. The people victims hire to negotiate with hackers may have been on the other side of the table. - Dutch police raided ShinyHunters suspect Pepijn van der Stap with flash-bangs while he was logged into Signal - His chats showed frequent contact with ransom negotiators in the U.S. and Canada - Those negotiators often knew about new victims before the victims knew they'd been breached - Per sources, Edward Dubrovsky, a Canadian negotiation exec charged earlier this month, knew ShinyHunters had the FBI's personnel files and never told the FBI - Dubrovsky's other firm, CyberSteward, helped PowerSchool pay its ~$2.85M ransom Meanwhile ShinyHunters was griping on Telegram that Coveware kept telling victims not to pay and it was wrecking their conversion rate.

‼️ AI agents broke into the SCADA system of Booz Allen's mock factory and took over the control room's screens. One realised it could now send commands to every controller in the plant and "make the operator screens lie". Another hacked a robotic arm and moved it in minutes.
