Dumbest person & tweet for the week⬇️
APOLOGIES TO ANYONE WHO THINKS OWNING A HOME IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN RENTING, BUT EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. I’ve been renting the same apartment for four years. I’ve paid $1,650 every month. That’s $79,200 over four years, and I have the bank statements to prove every cent. I’ve never missed a payment. I’ve maintained the place. I’ve treated it like my own home and after all that? I have no ownership stake in the property. Just four years of rent receipts. Meanwhile, the property owner still owns the asset. My rent contributes to the income that helps cover the costs of owning it, while any equity they build belongs to them. Now, I’m not saying landlords shouldn’t make money. Property taxes, maintenance, insurance, and mortgage payments are real expenses. But here’s what I struggle to understand: Why is the only way for me to build an ownership stake in the place I live to somehow save enough money to buy property while I’m already spending a significant portion of my income on housing? I’m not asking for a free house. I’m asking why years of consistently paying for shelter don’t leave renters with any ownership in the asset they’re helping sustain. Renting doesn’t make you irresponsible but why does the system make it so difficult to turn years of housing payments into wealth?

Split pin in Oz. A cotter pin is in a bicycle pedal to the crank.
So today's shop topic was "Cotter Pins" or "Splints" as they are called in German. So, I wonder if anyone out there can settle an argument at the shop. Which is correct? A or B?

Ray Martin the ranga😂
"Why did you ever need cocaine? You're as fast without it as any addict," Ray Martin asked. Robin Williams paused, his hyperactive mask slipping into a quiet reality. "It allowed me not to talk," Williams confessed. "It was like reverse medication. It just shuts you down so you don't have to talk to people." The world assumed he used drugs to fuel his legendary speed. The heartbreaking truth was the opposite: his mind ran at such a brutal pace that he used a deadly substance just to force his own brain to shut up. "How vividly can you remember falling into the trap?" "I don't," Williams admitted. "There’s a thing called a blackout. It's your conscience going into a witness protection program saying: 'I'm checking out. I'm leaving the body on, but we're not going to remember anything.'" Enduring reality as Robin Williams was simply too painful to bear while fully conscious. "And John Belushi's death... was that a shock?" "Totally. But more importantly, my son," Williams said softly. "I didn't want to be coked up going, 'Hey, dad loves you.' I stopped because I realized you have a responsibility bigger than yourself." For a moment, love pulled him back from the edge. But years later, when the noise inside his mind became deafening, Robin Williams took his own life. We live in a culture that treats hyper-energetic creators as entertainment machines, demanding they stay turned on for our amusement. Robin Williams exposed the quiet tragedy behind the applause. The loudest person in the room is often fighting the most exhausting internal war. Real empathy isn't demanding someone keep performing for you - it's noticing when their soul is trying to check out, even while they make you laugh.

Any thoughts @mercoglianos
NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions. More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves. In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety. The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action. In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties. The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.” I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.
