Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate-- then were told to lay off. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

Huge drop in Google searches for various health disinformation topics following the Ukrainian strikes on Russian data centers. It makes you wonder how much of the “turbo cancer, ivermectin” nonsense is really fueled by Russian bots, & how many Americans they’ve killed…

It's going to be WILD if he ends up running against AOC. They are going to have to try to disguise the fact that they agree on like 75% of stuff. It's going to be very awkward.
Vance: "If you are trying to undo 40 years of globalization, it's going to take time to fix that. You have a few tone deaf Republicans who say, 'Shut up if you're pissed off about a $22 burrito.' My response to that is... No. Listen to people who are upset with the state of the economy."

Below is a longer view of real yields vs real potential GDP growth and R-Star. For the ever-rising debt burden to remain sustainable, it’s essential that economic growth remains above the country’s funding rate. Based on the CBO’s real potential growth rate of 2.5% (and falling below 2% in the coming years), that is no longer the case. Hopefully, the CBO projections are too low given the AI boom that is currently underway. If not, we run the risk that the rising cost of capital will choke off the economy’s formidable growth. Note below that the last few times that the real yield spiked to or above the real potential growth rate were 2007, 2000, and 1994. Those were either rate shocks or growth shocks.

They are doing "DoorDash is killing my family" style posting in Pakistan now. Although they are a lot more honest about the influence of rising standards and keeping up with the Joneses.

#ColoradoRiver A Path Forward Breaking the Doom loop if we don’t get more runoff A. Short term, sacrifice Powell and Flaming Gorge, defend Mead 1035’ and power head. Water in Powell and FG is breathing room. Give UB a % of Mead’s power for preventing the loss of all 900 MW. B. Medium term, declare national emergency and desalinate 800,000 AFY of IID wastewater, cities facing shortages pay the desal costs, hopefully $800-2,000 AF. Interior would pay for the plants under National obligation to augment the river from 1944 & 1968. This removes part of the III(c) obligation which is the litigation tripwire  C. Long term, better forest management to try to win back 10-15% of runoff, thin high elevation subalpine conifer and make more meadows to reduce canopy interception and sublimation

VICTOR NIEDERHOFFER WILL BE MISSED In today's newsletter, I wrote about the time I unexpectedly was put on the official agenda of one of his parties, and how I witnessed firsthand the incredibly devoted community had built in real life and online. RIP to a true New Yorker.

Lots of hot takes on 3% real yields. Here's my cool calm take sent to clients of dampedspring and 2Graybeards. (Details in pinned tweet for subscriptions) 3% real is not some magic level. I am going to begin scaling into long dated tips as planned for beta and add some long zb trades for alpha at some point but its not magic and calling it a "generational" buy is overly confident. It is pretty attractive though and here's why. 1. Historically high it's only once been higher in U.S. tips history and only stayed high in the early days due to lack of interest and novelty (10 year tips were issued and traded in the 4's for a while) 2. Fundamentally pretty cheap. The idea of real risk free bonds Is they should track pretty tightly real growth over time. Real growth of 3% is very high in a world of 50bp of work force growth and long term productivity growth of 1.0%. So there's no magic level. I think 3% is cheap and will buy but supply of treasuries from QRA extending the debt, balance sheet adjustments by the fed and corporate capex funding is bearish and could push yields 25-50bp higher for absolutely no reason more than that However 3% is expensive real issuance costs which is a tightening and if it goes higher equities, housing, and the economy in general will have downward pressure on growth. So tips are a good addition to a diversified portfolio.

The magnitude of Trump's personal corruption and the monetizing of the presidency by him and his family have no precedent in US history. It takes a total peasant mentality, or some weird cultish devotion, to defend or excuse this, especially if you objected to corrupt Biden transactions (as I did). It's on a completely different scale. Trump set up a crypto company (World Liberty Financial) 4 days before his inauguration, then had the UAE pour hundreds of millions into his pockets for 49% of it, then gave rewards to the UAE. Jared getting $2 billion from the Saudis. On and on and on.

The number of financial side deals the Trump family is running is so shocking it can sometimes be hard to track. According to @Reuters, their crypto ventures alone have delivered $2.3 billion to Trump & co. while creating a similar-sized loss for investors.
