In a US Congressional election, a state may have a Republican 53:47 voter majority but be carved into districts so that the Republican Party wins ALL its Congressional seats. From New York Times reporting:

Billionaires in California are spending $333 million to wage a war. Against what? Homelessness? No. Cancer? No. Child poverty? No. They’re waging war against a 5% billionaire wealth tax. They’d rather poor kids with cancer die than pay a little more in taxes. That is obscene.

Yesterday (Oct. 26) marked the 150th consecutive day that the Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature set a new record daily high, at 30.22°C (preliminary). This was more than 1.13°C above the previous record daily high set in 2015, as well as a record 3.49°C above the 1991-2020 baseline.

Genie 4 is out. Real-time world models make you feel like you're on set. You can can step into a live simulation and record multiple "takes" in real-time, adjusting camera angles, lighting, sound, and action on the fly. Here's me progressively building out a scene with the mythical black triangle the DoW shared recently as part of their UAP files.

Basic income is about more than money. It’s about the power to say no. Karl Widerquist argues that freedom means having real control over whether to cooperate with others, rather than being forced into cooperation by economic necessity.

UN says it's genocide. HRC says it's genocide. PVA says it's genocide. ICJ says it's genocide. ICC says it's genocide. Anyone who knows anything about genocide says it's genocide. Everyone is lying except Israel who are committing genocide and ethnic cleansing.

People say AI is overhyped. But the last 18 months, most made the opposite mistake: • Superforecasters: AI would match a top team of virologists on a lab troubleshooting test in 2034. It likely did in April 2025. • AI experts: the best model would score 14% on LiveCodeBench Pro (Hard) by end-2026. It hit 54% by May. • Economists: the top AI company would hit $16bn annualised revenue by end-2026. Anthropic passed $65bn in September. Only AI company leaders were overoptimistic, and not by much.

In China, more than one in five workers is still employed in agriculture. China makes and exports more goods than any other country. So, perhaps unsurprisingly, when we think about China’s economy, the first thing that comes to mind is often manufacturing — increasingly at the technological frontier in electric vehicles, batteries, and solar panels. China’s position in manufacturing follows decades of economic transformation. The chart shows one aspect of this: the decline in agricultural employment. At the turn of the 21st century, around half of all Chinese workers were employed in agriculture. One generation later, that share had more than halved, reaching 22% in 2025. It's striking how far the share of workers in agriculture has fallen, and just as striking how high it remains. Agriculture employs more than a fifth of China’s workers, while accounting for less than 7% of its GDP. (written by @EOrtizOspina)
