Deeply misleading by @vonderleyen to blame Member State divisions for lack of EU action on Israel/Palestine when she herself has been the principal block on banning trade with illegal settlements.

Together with the @ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric, and with even greater urgency, I renew my call on States to establish specific prohibitions & restrictions on autonomous weapon systems.
We are now dangerously close to crossing a moral red line: the autonomous targeting of humans by machines.

We mark the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima at a time when nuclear sabers are rattled once again in the name of power & coercion.
But peace is not secured through fear & might.
It's built through trust, diplomacy, international cooperation & an unwavering commitment to international law.
Letâs choose dialogue over division & cooperation over confrontation to move closer to a world where the tragedy of Hiroshima is never repeated.
