What do you mean you’ve hired the housing director that was in place at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in the lead-up to the Grenfell fire which killed 72 people?
Leading a department that treated residents like shit.

“I love my home, garden and the area. I just wish it wasn’t shared ownership. I feel like it was almost mis-sold to me as affordable housing, but instead, I am trapped in a situation where I am paying more and more.”

They know shared ownership is a one sided money making scheme so the people who provide them will never lose out. Compounding interest mortgages require specialist legal advice yet compounding rent schemes don’t?!

🆕 The Housing Select Committee has published its report on homeownership affordability.
It concludes:
👉 "Shared ownership (...) is not a long-term affordable option for many of the buyers to whom it is marketed."

Good post shared ownership has honest intentions, sadly execution has left many feeling ripped off.
Shared Ownership is marketed as affordable housing.
What's not mentioned in the marketing:
Rent on the unsold equity escalates every year (can easily double over 15 years).
Service charges compound hard — up 55% nationally, 64% in London in a decade.
You’re still liable for 100% of repairs on a home you only part-own.

SHAC's comment that the housing emergency is now actively exploited by private landlords and housing associations who convert traditional homes into temp accomm to lease to councils at extortionate rents. We need real change.

“We need a fundamentally different approach to the provision of public housing. This demands massive, sustained investment in council housing.” @mtpennycook and @SteveReedMP need to stop blind support for landlords & developers and start listening to communities.

LKP and NLC are not the legitimate representatives of the leaseholders of the UK and they have not been effective in holding the government to account for failing to abolish leasehold and for misleading leaseholders that they would do that.

More than a fifth of British children born after 2013 spent at least half their childhood in poverty - a direct consequence of the welfare cuts imposed by Conservative governments that stripped tens of billions of pounds a year from the incomes of low-income families, a major new study by the University of Oxford has found.
