COVID-19 can wake up dormant viruses in the body, large study confirms | Science | AAAS share.google/yLPLIwV5PMTooqS…

This is a very interesting study from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. It suggests that SARS-CoV-2 may be evolving in a way that makes it increasingly difficult for the human immune system to recognize the virus in the first place—not simply harder for existing antibodies to neutralize it.
So now one has to wonder whether if fewer naïve human B cells can recognize an evolved virus, will the vaccines even work? Will they have a difficult time recruiting genuinely new B-cell specificities?
Doesn't this seem like an issue worth considering @FDADrugs @FDA @CDC @NIHDirector_Jay?

One of these days, perhaps more people will recognize that human immunology has inherent limits. And those limits necessarily involve becoming sick over and over again, until technology can find a way to work toward immunobiology beyond those limits!

Thanks for the kind words. As we noted on our call, we didn’t disclose the titers achieved with vaccination or combination because they come from an assay that is not calibrated against or controlled by results against any of the assays vaccine companies use. We felt it would be misleading to provide data people could inappropriately try to interpret in any clinical terms. The purpose of LIBERTY was much narrower, and we are thrilled with the results!
Antibodies are important parts of our immune systems. But don’t take it from us!
See what @LindseyVonn has to say about immune health and how we could all make small changes that might help support our antibodies and immune protection.

Antibodies can be generated naturally by the human body following vaccinations, which mimic infections to stimulate antibody production.
Engineered antibodies, called monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), can be given directly by injection or infusion.
mAbs are proteins that recognize and target specific parts of viruses with precision.
That’s why we’re advancing antibody-based approaches to help protect those who need it most.
