Actuarial science is a really great frame for understanding the costs of anti-discrimination laws. If some characteristic has residual predictive value after others are controlled for, then ignoring it creates a subsidy from high-performing groups to low-performing groups.

The U.S. regime trying to paint Canada as some kind of evil supervillain is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.
The rest of the world is just sitting there like:
“You mean…Canada? The country whose national stereotype is apologizing too much?”

BTW, this is why a lot of European allies are unlikely to help Trump in his military adventures -- democracies are run by elected politicians. And Trump has foolishly gone out of his way to make himself intensely unpopular in those countries. Yet he's shocked and offended by the consequences of his choices.

It's gratifying to finally live in a country where the economic system is completely at a whim of a single politician.
Just as the Founders intended.

16 foreign nationals arrested for terrorizing people with extortion. All but one immediately released on bail.
Here’s how this should work: all 16 should be kept in custody. The police should contact CBSA to determine their immigration status. Any who are here illegally should then immediately be transferred to immigration detention, and removed.
Any who have legal status in Canada should be kept in remand pending trial. Extortion is an indictable offence with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, so no judge should be tempted to give them the now standard sentencing discount for non citizens.
The Crown should offer them a deal: voluntarily leave Canada, or face prosecution. If they choose to stay and are convicted, CBSA should track them via Corrections Canada, commence all the removal proceedings, and secure travel documents from the Indian government.
The moment their custodial sentences end, they should be taken directly from prison to immigration detention, and then to the next flight to India.
And all of that should be done with maximum publicity to send a dissuasive message to other foreign nationals who come to Canada to abuse our generosity and terrorize our citizens.
“None of the accused are Canadian citizens. Supt. Jeff Bell says the suspects are largely in the country on a mix of student or work visas.”
But Minister Miller assured us that we do criminal background checks for student visas. CBC should ask him again.

It’s insane to me that it’s standard practice to use relative measures of poverty like “50% of median income”. That could mean literally any amount of real access to goods. The abundant AGI future might have a poverty rate of 10%, meaning people who only own one planet.

It's a trite observation, but it is funny how people who are very close in policy views to the actual Nazis seem to love going around calling libertarians 'Nazis'.

Trump genuinely believes that when you buy something you want, you lose money. It's world-historical stupidity. By his illogic, we'd all be better off never buying anything from each other.

I would love to hear from someone who worked in the WH about whether DT really has this understanding of what a bilateral trade deficit is. He says this so often (and has for decades) that I think he really just has no idea what it means.

It's *explicitly* allowed by the Charter. Racial discrimination is guaranteed by the text of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms so long as it's framed as an affirmative action initiative. It's a really crappy Charter, you see.

Prior to the Great Financial Crisis, there was a huge collapse in permitting for new homes.
That meant that, suddenly, local authorities were no longer allowing new homes to be built.
America's cities never fully recovered from this. That's why we have a housing crisis today.

This is correct. Canada explicitly embraced a baseless conspiracy theory that if the proportion of black food inspectors didn't *exactly* match the proportion of black people generally, it's because secret, ethereal racism was to blame. Utter, devastating insanity.

Pretty wild that in the name of fighting imagined institutional racism they have created unprecedented real institutional racism

Like I get the joke you're making here, and the effort it takes.
But it just makes him look good at his job.

This is from an internal report by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It lists the precise number of disabled and non-white employees that each managerial unit is expected to hire. The next time Canadians are dead from tainted food, remember that this is what they prioritized.
Canadians don't realize that racial quotas dominate everything the federal government does, to a degree with no real precedent in our history. Managers receive precise numbers of non-white people they must hire, and they get in trouble if they don't. nationalpost.com/opinion/key…

Frederick, MD came to an interesting agreement with a data center developer:
The developer will renovate an elementary school, build a community center + rec park, preserve farmland, train workers, build trails + solar, buy a fire truck, and it replaces an idle aluminum smelter.

Well they objectively *are* retro. The PS3 is a hairs breadth from being 20 years old. Obviously this seems bizarre because PS3 games don't play, or in even many cases look, all that different from modern games. Well, thats your stagnation for you.
The Wii and PS3 are now officially being treated as retro consoles in Japan’s long-running gaming show Game Center CX.
The show asked viewers whether games from the Wii and PS3 should be considered retro.
>More than 14,000 people voted in the first poll, with 71% saying yes.
>A second poll had almost 17,000 votes, with 80% supporting the idea.
Both consoles launched in 2006, so they are now 20 years old. Game Center CX will now consider Wii and PS3 games for its retro gaming episodes.

Total BS
I have been to Canada well over 100 times
By choice
They don’t take advantage of me and I enjoy my visits especially the great natural beauty.
Every major US airline flies to Canada
In fact it’s cheaper for Canadians to fly to the US than to fly across Canada.
Per capita Canadians buy much from the US that vice versa.
This entire war with Canada is unnecessary and baseless.
NEW: President Trump blasts Canada over trade, accusing the country of unfairly targeting American industries and exploiting U.S. markets for decades.
"Canada has been ripping off the United States for many, many years, for decades, many decades.”
“They take advantage of our farmers. They take advantage of our tourists. They take advantage of airlines."
