@LQHomesMatter @LQcontactus @michaelgove @luhc when will the remediation works be started on Rosing Apartments in Bromley still no reply from l&q only saying they will start all their remediation by 2025! That is 3 years away! They should buy all s/o properties back!
5 years on from #Grenfell, nothing has changed for many leaseholders who are still living in unsafe buildings unable to move, still punished financially and mentally on a daily basis.

Well done. I did the same this week. All shared owners stuck in properties not able to sell should do the same.

@UKLabour must take control: fund and drive consistent remediation first, and pursue those responsible centrally through levies, taxation and direct action.
Instead, millions are being spent arguing over who pays while ordinary people continue to wait.

L&Q HA told us they never buyback even though their policy says they would.
L&Q HA said to us they never buyback.
Yes, @SharonStevenage, we know they “have the option” to buy back homes, but they’re not using it.

“This just isn’t right.
Too many things in this country drift on and on and on without getting sorted."
Two years ago, @andyburnham called on @ukLabour to take a different approach to the building safety crisis.
Labour refused. The drift has only continued.

"A dedicated allocation to support the buyback of unmortgageable shared ownership properties within the current Social and Affordable Homes Programme is the solution."

Most shared owners trapped in unmortgageable and unaffordable homes are saying the same thing: they need a way out.
They want buybacks.
Thank you @JessBrownFuller for asking this question👇

They are effectively paying the price for a crisis they did not create, and for trusting a government-backed scheme that promised an affordable home.
This is why we are calling on the Government to fund a national buyback scheme for shared ownership homes.

A great question on shared ownership buybacks… and a @mhclg response that completely sidesteps the issue.

@AngelaRayner what will you do to stand up for #cladding victims?? I’m £60,000 in debt for something I didn’t create or is my fault & something that will push me into debt into my late years as I’m almost 60 now! I’ve got nothing to fall back on no savings🤬

My partner and I are definitely part of that 41%. We will not be able to have kids, as we can’t move. It’s a disgrace that our lives are so impacted due to greed and politics.
Shared ownership is so unfair and they don’t tell you this when you buy. @PeterTFortune @FixingSO @EOCS_Official @ResourcesShared

I agree with you, Paul. Market value is what a willing buyer will pay. Yet as a shared owner, I must sell at the (often higher) *RICS* valuation.
If a buyer offers less, I must pay the difference on 100% shares to the housing association.
That's why many of us are trapped.

I was forced to rent as i know i cannot sell unless i give it away at auction. Even then i'll still incur big fees.

A safe home? Lucky you @Keir_Starmer.
Interesting fact to bring up right after the #Grenfell anniversary and knowing thousands of buildings around the country are either physically unsafe or making leaseholders unsafe financially.

Lucky you.
I was sold a so-called 'affordable' home (shared ownership) and it turned out to be unaffordable, as well as unsafe.
Despite warm words in opposition, your govt hasn't done anything to solve the building safety crisis.
Building more fire traps won't help anyone.

It was a roof over my head. It was sold as affordable housing. It isn't. It's a prison I can't escape from, with unmanageable escalating costs. Housing providers make estate agents look like good Samaritans.
I'd go back to renting in a flash if I could. Most shared owners would.

Also: London Councils are spending £4 million a day on temporary accommodation.
@MayorofLondon could use his AHP acquisition 💰 to buy back shares of unmortgageable shared ownership flats.

Its fair, but the buy back is easier with SO, cos the HA already owns a proportion of the equity. There would need to be a much bigger cash injection to buy back everything

Because Gov don’t listen and they don’t care.
They only care about building new builds.
They also sit by and do nothing while people’s new build homes are dangerously defective and the 10-year warranty provider refuses to fix.

I did everything right.
I started a business, paid tax, and bought a new home. It was meant to be safe, a place to build a life.
It’s dangerously defective, worth £0, and our MP, @Keir_Starmer, is looking the other way.
This is the housing trap. 🧵
