On the contrary Ben, I spent several years travelling on foot around the region recording the testimonies of the minorities of the Middle East in this award-winning book. It records first hand testimonies from the Yezidis, the Copts, the Maronites, the Armenians, the Kurds and the Palestinian Christians as well as many Israelis and Jewish Egyptians. I've also made an entire Channel 4 documentary series on the Sufis of the region. That is exactly why, like your sister, I am so incensed by the mass murder currently underway in Gaza. Do dm me your address and I'd be happy to mail you a copy if you'd like to learn a little more on this subject.
Replying to @DalrympleWill
The Jews are the only minority in that entire vast region that refuses to be eliminated from their minuscule, ancient homeland. That’s why they’re so loathed by the jihadists. Where are the Druzes, the Yazidis, the Copts and other Middle East Christians, the Berbers, the Sufis? Largely flattened, assimilated or driven out. You’re an expert on empires - but apparently Islamist imperialism in the Middle East isn’t a thing?

This article, by @stevenstrogatz for @TheAtlantic, is probably the most honest assesment of the current situation that you'll read. No one knows exactly how to move forward. What new training pathways will look like. How young mathematicians will develop the things the community have prized for generations like 'taste'. What they can say is that they are thinking very, very hard -- as if the future of the field depended on it. Because it does.

A new @WHO report reveals that noncommunicable #NCDs diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, along with their risk factors, disproportionately impact the poorest and most disadvantaged populations within countries. This first comprehensive global assessment highlights that people with lower education and income often face higher risks from #tobacco, alcohol, and #airpollution, and frequently receive worse care, such as lower cancer screening rates and less access to hypertension treatment in rural areas. To close these unjust gaps, countries must prioritize equity-oriented policies, strengthen primary #health systems, and invest in collecting better disaggregated data to ensure that life-saving interventions actually reach the populations most in need. who.int/data/inequality-moni…

It's true: the legal status of Palestinians in the West Bank is not the same as that of Blacks in segregated Mississippi. It's worse. In the Jim Crow South, Black Americans were at least citizens of the country in which they lived.
Judea & Samaria is not Mississippi. This analogy explains your inability to understand why the two state solution was never a solution for the Palestinians. This is a national conflict and not only an endless narrative about picking olives. The Palestinians of Judea and Samaria have rejected peaceful solutions. This should be understood by every Jew that has a moral compass.

A doctor does what a doctor is supposed to do and he is put in jail. Everything decent and good in this country is being put behind bars while the real criminals roam free and get to pillage sensitive ecosystems and destroy the land, water and local communities.
My dear friends, please, I hope to demand your absolute attention to this matter: In 2018, my junior from St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru, Dr. Randall Sequeira (middle in the pic), trekked up a steep, bauxite-rich plateau in Odisha to hold a monsoon health camp in the indigenous Kutiya Kondh village of Kutrumali. In a piece he wrote then titled "Kutrumali’s Demons," Randall described sleeping under a dripping school roof in freezing fog, borrowing utensils from a local health worker to cook khichdi, and waking up at 6 AM to a line of tribal mothers. He wrote with heartbreak about treating malnourished toddlers with protruding bellies and visible ribs, listening to stories of stillbirths and chronic fevers, while noticing the shiny new solar lights installed by a mining conglomerate eyeing the aluminium ore beneath the villagers' feet. Comparing his small medical team to hobbits sheltering in the night, Randall worried about the outside forces coming for that fragile village. Randall stayed with the tribal/ adivasi community to serve them. After St. John’s and an MD in Internal Medicine from SMS Jaipur, he gave up every comfort of urban medicine to live in Kalahandi, recognizing that clinical prescriptions are meaningless when indigenous communities are stripped of their forests, water, and dignity. On the night of October 16, Odisha police picked up Dr. Randall Sequeira and Dalit activist Laxman Naik at 11 PM from his home in Bhawanipatna. A gentle physician who has spent years trekking up hills to save tribal children is now locked in Rayagada sub-jail under frivolous but draconian charges (attempt to murder, dacoity), simply for standing with Adivasis peaceful protesting the mining of their sacred hills in Sijimali and Kutrumali. thewire.in/rights/randall-se… Odisha Govt. said it will cut down forests to connect tribal villages. But it was a way to bypass green laws and fast track London based Vedanta’s, and Adani's mining plans. Local organisations estimate that around 45 villages depend on these hills and would be affected. reporters-collective.in/trc/… The state has answered with repression rather than dialogue. In the last three years, at least 43 police cases have been filed and over a hundred Adivasis and Dalits, both women and men, have been incarcerated in Odisha jails. For example, from In March and april 2026, 8, 2026, to April 8, 2026, within one month, 24 people were sent to jail, 217 were made accused, and the number of “others” total 1,140. An activist who was not named in the original FIRs, but has since been implicated in about 12 cases, so that bail in one case is followed by arrest in another. This pattern of capture and releases have been used to crush rational dissent. Dr. Randall understood that being a good doctor means understanding that prescriptions cannot compensate for the denial of land rights, that surgery cannot undo displacement and that no medical can substitute for the basic infrastructure a government has failed to provide. thehindu.com/sci-tech/health… To my fellow medical fraternity, and every citizen with a conscience: a kind physician who embodies the highest ethics of our profession is being criminalized to clear the way for bauxite mining. Please do not let his voice be buried in a sub-jail. Amplify this, demand due process, and demand the immediate release. Please sign in this form to show solidarity: forms.gle/o2Rj2Uu3tXaoWu9dA If anyone can help out in this situation please reach out to Medico Friend Circle - mfcindia.org/

On 22 September 2026, IFF filed RTI applications with MoRTH and NIC asking who has access to VAHAN, SARATHI, e-Challan and PUCC data. NIC’s reply of 16 October discloses that 25,314 credentials were issued to private entities and that 17.08 million queries were run through them in 33 months. It also says private sharing was discontinued from 1 October 2026 on MoRTH’s directions, a decision we have found announced nowhere. (1/8) Read More: internetfreedom.in/who-reads…

There is no sound legal reason to detain Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. They must be released immediately.

I can categorically say this claim from @DelhiPolice is a lie. It took the phones. “We did not take anyone’s phones. These people misplace their phones themselves or leave them at home. They then put pressure on the police.”
24 phones missing after Delhi Police detentions. Where did they go? Detainees say police took their phones and promised to return them. The police deny taking them. An e-FIR has been filed, but the phones remain unaccounted for. @SavyasachiAstha newslaundry.com/2026/10/20/t…

Important: Here’s something that a LOT of people don’t know about what’s actually going on with Delhi Police. CJP’s Saurav Das & Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to 2 more days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail. By a judicial court? NO. They have been kept in Tihar Jail for the last 6 days on the order of a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM). Who is an SEM? He is an ACP-rank (junior) police officer of Delhi Police appointed by the state govt. Therefore, Delhi Police arrested Saurav & Ashutosh & now a Delhi Police ACP (acting as SEM) is keeping them in jail. There’s no FIR against them. There’s also no judicial order. Delhi Police are the accusers & well as the judge when it comes to keeping them in jail. That’s how messed up it is.

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

This could not be more wrong, morally and legally. @SauravDassss and @AshutoshRanka must be freed, because they should never have been jailed. It is not a crime to raise your voice for the youth of your country. It is not a crime to demand a better future for the youth of your country. It is not a crime to protest, or to carry the Tricolour in protest. Free them.
🚨BREAKING: Delhi Police has sought an extension of CJP Leaders @SauravDassss and @AshutoshRanka’s Judicial Custody over Jantar Mantar peace bond breach. @Cockroachisback @DelhiPolice

Hart, I was a Zionist for nearly all my life. I actually went to live in Israel and was there for some years. So, you don't need to instruct me about that. Seeing the reality that, in order to exist, Israel requires the oppression, dispossession and expulsion of Palestinians took me decades. Now that I see it, I can't unsee it.
Replying to @RabbiMivasair
You could not understand his answer because you don't know what the word Zionist means. Unless or until you have a common understanding of what it means to be a Zionist, you can ne Er understand the why.

Can anyone remember the last time @BBCNews interviewed a Palestinian about their experience of the racism of Zionism? Having spent the last two weeks interviewing elderly Nakba survivors in Jordan, driven off their land in their teens because of their ethnicity and religion, I'd be happy to suggest some astonishingly articulate victims of Israeli racism who would be only too happy to tell their tragic stories of eviction, slaughter and dispossession. It is like reporting on the Civil Rights movement in the US and only interviewing outraged Whites @bbclaurak @bbcnickrobinson @JustinOnWeb @BBCr4today
“[Saying] ‘Zionism is racism’ is offensive, it’s antisemitic and it’s dangerous” Broadcaster Jo Coburn says she “watched in horror” as the Green Party passed its motion on Zionism and criticises leader Zack Polanski's defence in his #BBCLauraK interview bbc.co.uk/news/live/c64gv8k2…
