In 2008, the banks crashed the economy. Workers paid through austerity. Since then, they’ve faced crisis after crisis. Now workers pay more tax as energy bills rise, while extreme wealth and excessive profits go largely untouched. These are political choices. The Budget must answer one question: who pays?

Solidarity with our members at Apache. Apache is part of a global company which is making billions of pounds in profit. They can easily afford to resolve this dispute. @unitetheunion members will take further action on 4 November unless a fair deal is offered. #JobsPayConditions

In my conversations with the @10DowningStreet and the Chancellor, I have been very clear that whilst we of course support net zero, we cannot have a jobless transition, abandon our energy security or offshore our carbon responsibilities. That is why we have argued for this decision on Jackdaw. This gives us a bit more time to create and fund a concrete plan for commensurate jobs for workers currently working in the North Sea. Now we urgently need to use that and invest in industries like wind turbine manufacture and refining green jet fuel. We simply cannot let go of one rope until we have hold of another.
Energy Secretary @Miatsf has agreed that the regulator can grant consent for gas to be produced at the licensed Jackdaw field. Gas from Jackdaw is expected to start reaching British homes and businesses as early as the end of this month.

BREAKING: 160+ North Sea workers strike for 24 hours from 06:00 on 21 Oct, on 5 Apache platforms tied to the Forties pipeline, which carries ~30% of UK oil output. Unite warns UK fuel supply could be severely disrupted. Apache offers 4% and says it expects no impact on other Forties users. A 48-hour Wood Group strike at 5 Harbour Energy platforms starts 20 Oct.

More than 160 offshore workers at the Apache energy company will take part in a 24-hour strike, which could disrupt UK fuel supplies. The Unite union says its members will walk out just before 6am on Wednesday, and won't return until the same time the following day. It's in a dispute over pay.

The fact is Apache has so far chosen not to do this which is putting UK fuel supplies at risk. That is reckless behaviour and it is driven by shameful corporate greed. 2/2

We will not tolerate unacceptable pay offers and threats to withhold back pay from Apache. The operator is raking in eye-watering profits. It’s treating its highly skilled workers with contempt. Apache has been caught red handed in embarking on shameful corporate greed. tankstorage.com/news/strike-…

Great to be with @unitetheunion delegates at the @UKLabour conference 2026. I spoke yesterday on Unite’s motion: Rebuilding our economy for working people. Working class people cannot pay anymore. #LPC26

Unite has been warning that a perfect storm has been hanging over the auto industry for years. 'Death by a thousand cuts' has been going on under the nose of successive governments. Years of underinvestment, unsustainable ZEV mandates and high industrial energy costs are crippling the industry. There must be further action. There have been intensive government discussions over the weekend to look at how to mitigate these job losses at JLR. The Business Secretary, Jonny Reynolds, and I are meeting the CEO of JLR next week. @unitetheunion was pivotal in securing the £1.5 billion government facility for JLR after the cyber-attack. Once again, we will leave no stone unturned to support these workers. It cannot be acceptable that workers are again made to pay the price bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gk…

Apache is treating our offshore members with contempt by making offers which are effective pay cuts. That is unacceptable, especially as its parent group is making massive profits. The Apache workers will have Unite’s full support in their fight for better #jobspayconditions.
