Might find this paper interesting - estimates that RTFO drove up petrol/diesel prices by 3.5 and 6p per litre respectively (2020-2025 ish)

Absolutely floored by bus prices!
My 2yo is obsessed with vehicles (diggers = the holy grail but a colourful bus will do) so we treated him and his baby brother to a bus ride from our village outside Swansea to the library, 2 miles away, to borrow yet another digger book.
It's a journey we do regularly in 6 mins by car.

Creating a tax break for those who have not made any other provision for retirement that those who have don't get is beyond stupid (and I don't think pensioners should get an income tax break denied to working people full stop).

I texted my children that we got the puppy they’ve been begging me for and sent them a link with pictures. 🐶When they clicked on the link, it took them to a webpage that said YOU’RE GROUNDED. They’ll be spending the weekend retaking our family’s cybersecurity training course.

Just remember how Government are happy to financially destroy the lives of UK citizens at will
- unexpected pension changes
- suddenly adding VAT to school fees
- removed child benefit from some workers in 2013 (after prev being universal)
- farmers IHT
- tax, tax,tax
Etc
🚨JUST IN: Home Office drops date for announcing Shabana Mahmood's indefinite leave to remain changes.
• An investigation from The Critic shows how the Home Office has removed the previously planned date for announcing its proposed changes to indefinite leave to remain from internal documents.
• An internal Immigration Change Landscape Document had listed a parliamentary statement of changes for 14 October with immediate implementation, but that date has been taken out and no replacement has been given.
• The Home Office confirmed it is still considering responses to its consultation, which closed on 12 February and attracted more than 200,000 replies.

Anthony Costello received £22,207,997 for 11 grants from the Wellcome Trust up to August 2024 as an applicant/sponsor.
When lockdowns started, he was Lead Applicant on a study with a £ 5,528,492 Wellcome Grant.
Wellcome, as we know, heavily pushed the Zero Covid agenda that iSAGE also promoted.
Costello, as far as I know, never mentioned this in any of his media interviews and articles.

I cannot believe this. The 2024 NHS pandemic plan states the following generic assumptions:
“it will not be possible to halt the spread of a new pandemic virus, and it would be a waste of public health resources and capacity to attempt to do so.”

Worth noting that the three ships being scrapped by this Labour government are Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs)
OPVs were designed for counter-smuggling and border-patrol duties.
They are exactly the types of Royal Navy ships that could be deployed to challenge illegal migration in the channel.
They are built specifically to
1. Intercept suspected smuggling vessels.
2. Detect, track and approach suspect boats.
3. Support boarding operations against people-smuggling networks.
They are needed more than ever. They should be refitted and redeployed. Not scrapped.
🚨 SCOOP - Three more Navy warships are facing the axe –
bringing Labour’s scrap heap tally to 12.
Batch 1 OPVs HMS Tyne, Severn & Mersey have been “busy” shadowing Russian vessels.
If they are scrapped, Tamar and Spey will beat a retreat from Indo-Pac

A deeper dive into this morning's inflation and borrowing data... 🤔
(TL;DR - time to dust off those Oasis puns, and for a 'Ming Vase Budget'?)
The main driver of the jump in inflation to 3.5% in September was higher fuel prices, as expected, but core inflation excluding food and energy was also up, from 2.6% to 2.8%.
This was led by services, especially 'recreation and culture'. The latter may partly reflect the unwinding of the distortions created by the Oasis reunion gigs in 2025, as well as the expiry of this summer’s temporary VAT cut for family tickets.
The only good news is that food inflation held at 1.3%, thanks to intense competition in the supermarket sector, but this relief is unlikely to last.
Real wages are falling again – at least outside the public sector - while many households also face higher borrowing costs.
Moreover, inflation is set to rise further as higher energy prices and other cost increases feed through to the consumer.
Inflation control is primarily the job of the Bank of England, which has been slow to respond. But successive governments have also made this job harder by adding to the cost burdens on businesses and by preventing markets from working properly.
The current government has doubled down on these mistakes with further clumsy interventions in the markets for labour, energy, and housing.
The fallout from the ‘Renters Rights Act’ is just the latest example, adding to the upward pressure on inflation as private landlords either sell up or increase rents further while they still can.
Meanwhile, the run of bad news on the public finances continues. Borrowing was about £2 billion above the OBR forecast in September, mainly due to higher interest costs, and debt was provisionally estimated to have exceeded £3 trillion for the first time.
A burst of deficit-financed public investment might have made sense in the early 2010s when government debt and interest rates were both relatively low, but that moment is long past.
Next week’s fiscal event will have to be a ‘Ming Vase Budget’, given the fragility of the public finances and of confidence in the economy more widely.

It would appear that because we didn’t go to Think Tank School and therefore have no Approved Thinking In A Tank credentials, the Byline Times and their ilk think we can’t publish policy papers.
All we’ve done is take the data and draw conclusions from that. Anyone who wishes to reproduce our results is able to do so. It’s a shame they pressed ahead with the headline they did, given we did disclose our funders (no one) in good faith.
It’s very telling that our critics never once engage with the substance of our arguments. All they can do is flail and accuse us of being hypocrites or somehow unqualified to say what we say.
But we’re not going to stop. We have many more papers in the pipeline. If you want to read them, do follow @cambridgecircre to keep up with the latest updates on our work. Even better, if you’d like to contribute yourself, do get in touch!

To clarify. It’s actually even worse.
The horror of what our families face is this: my son’s killer, Valdo Calocane, was given a Section 37/41 hospital order. This is medical care, not a penal sentence.
By January 2027—the 3-year mark—he can legally apply to a tribunal to come out if deemed well enough. Worse, until our recent fight to close the loophole, these criminal patients actively pocketed up to £800/month in state benefits from their hospital beds.
A hospital order is not prison. We face a life sentence ensuring this monster is never released. #JusticeForBarnaby #NottinghamAttacks 💚💛

So basically, you can accept any rent a landlord asks for and then retrospectively claim you were desperate, and a tribunal will change your rent because some properties that aren't the same size or even in the same building are being advertised at a lower price.

I basically have never drunk alcohol almost ever, in part because alcoholism runs on both sides of my family, but via @ChrisMasterjohn I’ve been drinking a 1/2 oz of vodka around lunchtime every day for a couple months.
Big sustained quality of life improvement—fifteen more minutes of deep sleep each night, at minimum, and probably other things.
(Emphasis on “at noon” (not at night) and “1/2 oz”—I measure it.)
ymmv; I have no nutrient deficiencies!
The most important factor for developing a child's communication is parenting. Parents that engage children in back-and-forth conversation & abstract discussion, as well as respect their child's views, will produce confident speakers.
Unsurprisingly, she doesn't mention that.
For too long, confident spoken communication has been kept for the few. Now, it will be the right of every child.
Here’s what I’m changing👇🏻
