Forests stabilize climate better than ANY tech we've invented. And protecting an existing forest stores 8-12x more carbon than planting a new one. We don't need to invent the future. We need to protect it. 🌲

Super Typhoon Champi is generating colossal 10-metre waves east of the Philippines, a stark demonstration of a warming world. We are adding energy to the Earth's climate system, and the consequences are becoming harder to ignore.

💧☣️ Rainwater isn't safe anymore. Rainwater is no longer considered safe to drink anywhere on Earth. A Study found PFAS "forever chemicals" in rainwater around the globe, exceeding some drinking water guidelines, including Antarctica. How can we pretend this is normal?

I discussed the new U.N. report on breaching the 1.5C dangerous global warming limit (and the unhelpful green-lighting of new North Sea gas drilling project by U.K. Prime Minster Andy Burnham) earlier this evening with @BBCNews:

They aren't crossing our roads to cause trouble. They're simply trying to survive in a world where their forests are disappearing What we call development, they may experience as losing everything they've ever known Please slow down They deserve to make it home safely, too

Every fraction of a degree of global warming matters. Yet greenhouse gas emissions remain at record levels. The new @UNEP #EmissionsGap Report shows what it will take to change course & pull back from the brink of a climate catastrophe. unep.org/en/news-and-stories…

Great piece by Tom Harris on cloud feedback The world's cloud cover is reducing, which makes the planet hotter This may be why Miocene Climatic Optimum temperatures were 7 - 8C up on pre-industrial for CO2 levels of just 400 - 600ppm Very, very, scary substack.com/home/post/p-220…
